How about a 1 in 50 chance to get free WSOP seat worth 10k? I realize SBR takes a 20% cut, but so what. Points are also worthless for non pros.

By not playing, you increase the odds for the rest of us to 1 in 49.

You know waves, if I do get top 50 I might consider it a flyer on a wsop satty and do it. Then again I might just donate another 100 to make a wish(did the first out of guilt when I decided not to join the first time) and go to vegas this summer to play a few real sats to get in. They give you a better than 2% chance to take first place in a turbo thats for sure. I guess some need to buy in with betpoints but others here will be ok without them.

1 in 50 chance at $10k seat is only $100 in value for sharpy (ignoring SBR's cut and after $100 donation)...far from a no-brainer, or even something to go too far out of the way for. As he says, for some people a freebie like this is the closest they'll ever get; for others, there are better opportunities if desired.

Even though it seems like it will be a bit of a shovefest, it's far from a 2% chance for everyone...as this format has surely proven, some people's playing ability (or lack thereof) leaves them with a much smaller chance of grabbing a first place, especially in a tougher field. Meanwhile, there are some solid guys who are far more likely than 2% to take it down.

Thanks for proving my point Tripe...The $200 value more than covers any $100 donation, & he should be able to earn a few hundred worth of merchandise throughout the year as well. So it's a no brainer indeed, for most intelligent folks anyway.

Sam, You need to check the math on wussywaves (aka bobby waves).... this is the second time he's been given an "extra" cash and 150 pts....

for this promo he has only nine cashes totaling 1500 points

this is the second time he's been temporarily awarded an extra cash and 150 pts -- the last time it was corrected, please correct it again

I'm on the fence about the future...this format is a step in the right direction, albeit a bit of a harsh transition for people without real-world poker experience. I think SBR poker could very well improve, and there's a decent chance we get a good representative. But as bobbo points out, there's a not-insignificant chance we'll end up sending an embarrassment of a player instead.

Shame I don't have more time on my hands, would enjoy trying out some unorthodox things to shake it up and try to expand the poker base.

This whole thread brings to mind another question.....Without digging through 50 top players, how many of
the top 50 are pros..... ????? This could change those numbers considerably and allow players further out a chance to earn a seat in this, the most significant purse awarded by SBR!!!

No problem...I don't care what your reasons are for not going pro, it's obviously your decision alone to make. But I can't see any reason that would make decision a wise one. Considering you're in top 50 & considering how much time you dedicate to this site.

Thanks to both of you. Found out my wife had MS 2 years ago. She doesn't say a lot about the walk, but when you've been married 24 years, you can sense when something is important to your spouse. My 13 year old daughter, and I are both going to participate.

Agreed... the 5 payout slots are fine... being paid previously for "showing up" was silly; only thing that has to happen now is an increased prize pool, which is easily solved with a player buy-in (+SBR added).

Quote Originally Posted by Triple_D_Bet View Post

Only way it's ever gonna happen, has to be on player's end, as SBR is obviously content with status quo (unorthodox things like a poker league set up by players, for example, where all kinds of things could be conjured up/implemented there; of course, that would require a commitment from a SBR crowd that thinks playing with anything other than rollover is anathema so... better chance of tt scoring a Ménage à trois, I suppose.)

I mentioned last week in a thread I had some ideas to improve formats (IMHO) like this current WSOP one (and further reward skill over luck), but, upon reflection, decided I'd just be wasting my time typing them all out (tier type thing/doesn't cost SBR anything more).

BUT, here's a simple one I'll throw out there (that won't go anywhere, either) but, it addresses the valid issue(s) that Jake and others have raised about the high ranking Leaderboard guys being no better off in the end than the 50th guy (which is dumb in a months long contest like this trying to send the most deserved player in the contest to WSOP).

As is, carseller could go on a week ending cards-slappin-him-in-face-heater, grab 50th, then donk his way to the Rio in 1 tourney.
    Rather....

If you were to give the Top 10 a bye (*earned* for their months long consistency, and an incentive to other players to actually try to get there), hold just 1 more tourney for slots 11-50 giving out 10 seats to the final (25%)... then you'd have a 20 player final (5% instead of 2%) that:

    1) Wouldn't be as much of an ending shovefest as this 50 man is sure to be (SBR wouldn't have to change anything w/blinds/structure).

    2) Would go a long ways in help assuring a more representative player that did consistently well in months long contest would be one representing SBR (without removing the chance of a potential longshot winner).

    3) Wouldn't cost SBR anything more

Now, if you'll excuse me... tt just texted me wanting to know where he can find 2 blind girls that won't take a dump on him during sex (I'll just forward text to GUMMO, let him handle it.)

Thank you sir. We were fortunate that it was caught early. Normally you will see it develop when someone is in their 20's or 30's. The beginning stages started in my wife around 40 so we caught it in plenty of time. She takes medication now to keep it at bay.

I could not agree with Bite more.
You nail it, top 20 at best in a series that drove 38 player per tournament, 140 players a day, with the regular suspects in the top 20

I really am sorry man, I don't know anyone with MS and I wasn't trying to clown on you or anything. For some reason when I read that it seemed like you were being sarcastic like I gotta wash my hair type excuse but I was way way off on that one.

Jake for the record I was cracking up at KLC's post and then realized I had made a horrible mistake. I may be the biggest accidental d-bag in forum history now.

No way man. As long as you own it and apologize it's all good. It's hard to read the tone of some posts. Trust me, I've had more than a few of those moments where my face literally goes red and I scramble to edit a post before anyone reads it.
