    I'm on Cardinals +110 tonight

I am a Cubs fan. This hysteria surrounding the team is just ridiculous. I'm taking the Cardinals on basic principles of life. Rome was not built in a day, and Wainwright is not a dog.

if they lose, you could always blame it on sending Kris Bryant down.

The reason this line is justified (as a Cubs fan) is that the Cubs knocked Wainwright around last year more than any team in the league by far. There's something to that... several of the Cubs' hitters see him very well. Wasn't a fluke.

Cubs also have the better bullpen.

Except that, for the record, most of the guys who hit him well are either not starting or not on the team:
    Welington Castillo 6-12
    Nate Shierholtz 4-8
    Ryan Sweeney 3-7
    Luis Valbuena 6-14

Rizzo (6-14, HR) is the starter that did hit him well last season. But Castro/Coghlan/Soler were combined 2-20.

    Cubs win though.

hmm good points there... Miguel Montero has decent luck against him, luckily. Though even that doesn't matter if Ross starts. Damn Lester and his preference for Ross.

Agree, I am taking Cards tonight and probably fading cubs first week or two of season until public realizes this isn't a World Series team.

if Wainwright isn't 100%, then Lester is just as bad not to mention he only threw 8 1/3 innings all spring. I feel this is def gonna be won or lost by the bullpens. To early to say who has the better one since its game one. I'll take Cards and the +105

Cubs' bullpen was incredible last year and is extremely young and extremely talented. So it is fair to say the Cubs' pen is very likely to be better.

Find a better 7-8-9 than Ramirez, Strop, and Rondon? Only in San Diego or Kansas City, will you find a better one. Then you throw in Justin Grimm and maybe Motte is back to his old form, could be tough to score against the Cubs' pen.

eh, knowing who has good players isn't necessarily nerdy... especially if you're gambling.

i know. it's the way you went about it is all. the back and forth that some are willing to get into it over bullpens and all that. i'm just glad there's debate being sparked in some way by people who keep up with baseball in this thread.

everyone has to be a nerd about what they gamble on in some respect if they want to do it well.

    Cubs 0-10 in scoring position.

cubs Lucky to have kept the score 0-3, i see this ending with 4 or 5. The cubs just can't catch a break at bat.

Need 4 for the cubs to take this one, and unless i see a 2+ run HR, i don't see it happening at the pace the game has gone. Far too many opportunities missed and/or were just lost to feel good about the cubs taking it at bat with 0-10 in scoring position, while cardinals have scored all runs in individual innings playing consistently.

Cubs scoring trouble's weren't foreseen as they have been deep into the game, i didn't expect nobody going home this deep in. Disappointing opener. It's baseball though, this could turn sides still. We'll see. Not holding my breath for a second, though.

PaperTrail / Tex, I couldn't agree more in hindsight here. I didn't have an edge on the game, but i can't believe the trouble the Cubs have had @ bat having chance after another with men on base and just not getting there. Hopefully this won't turn into a complete shutout opener for Chicago.

Knew they would eventually go to that. Wouldn't be surprised if the home plate umpire is not calling balls and strikes within the next 10 years.
