    Pete Rose HoF

IMHO, if MLB insists on excluding one of the members of its 4000 hit club from the HoF, then it should be the other guy. Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame - there is NO (none, nada, rien, bupkiss.....) evidence that Rose ever bet against his team, whereas, there's quite a bit of circumstantial evidence that Ty Cobb did just that more than once. AND they should enact a rule that every manager has to bet on his own team for every game.

If they ever let him back in I would be the biggest drama-fest baseball ever had. Maybe baseball needs some of that, the regular season has become a total snooze.

He may not have bet against his team, but he did bet on his team. So if there were games he was willing to bet on his team, I would argue the times he wasn't willing to bet on his team was actually a bet against them.

I should add that if he had never bet on his own team, one way or the other, I would support his being forgiven and allowed into the HOF.

    Baseball is dead

They need Petey back in hall and managing Reds

Rose is Mr Baseball and nobody ever has come close to earning that title

Spot on. I'm sure he managed different knowing he had money on his team.

Can u imagine back when he was betting? "Man, Reds line getting some steam today." Other guy at the book "Oh no, Pete Rose just called his bet in from the dugout hes on his team hard." Had to be like my fave scene in casino when DeNiro Puts his bet down, the line moves, and everyone runs out to the phones to get shit right.

I don't think betting on your own team should be illegal.

Zero chance of him being in the HOF in the next 50 years. Next topic.

How did he suffer? He knew he did wrong and continued to gamble thinking he was bigger than the game.

Betting on your team is almost as bad as betting against. Because when you bet on your team you may want to do things just to win the game however would hurt the team longterm. Throwing your ace an inning or so longer than what would be recommending is most obv example i can think of that wouldn't look suspicious.

How would you compare betting on baseball/aside from taking a dive in a game to:

    Domestic abuse conviction
beat his kid with a switch
    PED's
    DWI's/car accident
punch a guy in parking lot

    ????

I see where your coming from, but domestic situations / violence / drinking don't, in theory, compromise the games integrity.

He lied for too many years, then only confessed when he wanted to sell books.

He showed no respect to the game he loved or his peers.

I don't see him ever getting in

Many of baseballs best players were selfish pieces of shit.

Seems to be the nature of the game. You have to be confident to be successful and the best are often self aggrandizing fuk heads.

The other member of the 4000 hit club is a good example. Though they were different times.

grew up with big red machine. Worked reds rally at marge schotts on 7 occasions. The guy is a dirt bag!He spent 20 years lying that he never bet on baseball. There is a reason that he had to bet out of state because he had stiffed all bookies around here. I heard second hand how the story went down on his getting busted. He was involved with some shady characters. Tommy giossa was his girlfriends son from single a. There were implications of steroid and cocaine distribution among the guys he hung out with and they didn't have a pot to piss in.http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news...lded/25112685/

There is a lot of bitterness on behalf of players who don't quite make it into the HOF. What would you think of the HOF if you were a major league player of average skill on a team or two that had won the World Series but not showered with this big shot honor? Would you care if Pete Rose or anybody got in?

Do we really need Hall of Fames - All Pro teams - All Star Games - Heisman Trophy? Don't they create more harm than good? Nothing about them rewards team play!

Thanks for making my point - now back to where I started =
    AGAIN -
If one member of the 4,000 hit club should be barred from the HoF it should be the other guy. If you want to talk about scumbags whose humanity was lower than whale sh!t, Ty Cobb beats Rose in every way. This is not a needlepoint forum so everyone knows the details of Cobbs miserable existence. In summation: Rose is not in the HoF because he bet on baseball, Cobb most likely either bet against his own team or took money from bookies to tank more than once in meaningless games at the end of the season - this is pretty well known and documented. Rose is a miracle making ordained Catholic saint if morally compared to Cobb. Two guys have over 4000 hits in MLB history and only one is in the HoF. The HoF should be about baseball....
