Sammy never advises people to invest in Bitcoin. He only advises using Bitcoin as a way to move money around.

Sammy seems to have lost it all with bitcoin, was supposed to move from San Diego to Reno and living the life....now being forced to move about 20 miles south of San Diego.

He'll rebound, but who knows how at his age and no longer in the workforce.

Warning massive wall of text incoming.

Always love these short term call out threads. Where are the ones from when people were spouting off about some stock that was going to go crazy only to continue to dip to record lows? (BkofAma anyone?) Or the guys who were on here chirping about gold when it was 1800 an ounce (skyrocketed form 1300 in a couple months) telling people to keep buying because it was going to hit 2000 or 2500 or more. (topped off at around 1920 minus premium).

Bitcoins no different, even though it is a 'cryptocurrency' it is still balanced against known currencies, dollar, euro, yen etc so that more than anything causes the massive fluctuations. Dollar is weaker it takes more of them to buy a bitcoin, dollar gets stronger it takes less. Similar to gold, silver and other commodities that have a finite amount floating around.

When bitcoins crashed last week it was for a lot of reasons but it wasnt because theyre not a viable currency. were they worth 1200 or whatever they got up to a couple years ago? Of course not. But 175 to 200 when those are half what they were a few months ago? Yeah worth taking a shot on. Price is now around 230, down from 265 or so this past weekend. That can be easily explained too. People bought 50-100K worth at an all time (not counting when they first appeared) and those sales actually created a buzz and they made money on their own money. As gamblers you should know this. Or at least should. Buy the Yankees for a few max bets at -120 what is going to happen? Theyre going to move. Or at least they used to. But in a TRUE (organic) market (which is what bitcoins sort of is) the price does move on demand. Then what does the guy or people who bought a ton at 177 do? They sell off some at a decent price, they might not be perfect perfect. But they pay 180 and sell for 260 they made 80 bucks (45%) per for two days.

    Buy low sell high right?

Now thats the 'investment' part. But bitcoins for gamblers anyway arent about investing theyre simply the easiest way to move money around anonymously (until you try and get real cash for them) then theyre not so anonymous.

If a book gives you cash value at time of deposit then theyre even better, but you have to hope if you paid 250 you get 250 for them any less and youre already starting out in a hol.. If they hold bitcoins and you use bitcoins then it is a little more tricky. Because then if they lose value you have already lost more of an edge than you can claim you have betting in the first place. But it also goes the other way. You might gain a few bucks on them along the way.

But at the price they are right now I dont see them losing a lot over the mid term (next 3-6 months) if anything they should go up. People still leery of organized financial institutions and the stories about bitcoins are being blown way out of proportion by the edia to scare mainstream off them because the media is controlled by the Government (definitely in other countries and even in the U.S>) to a degree and the govt doesnt like things they cant regulate. Which is what thyere trying to do now, build up enough to try and regulate something they cant possibly regulate. Which is also why there is a lot of maneuvering to regulate and control the internet more and more.

Bitcoins are a valid currency as long as theyre not over inflated or overly manipulated, which at the price they are right now is more easily done. But still involves a gamble on guys doing it. So its still a fair playing field for anyone who wants to speculate and take risks (as an 'investment' approach not simple transfer of funds approach)

I am not a bitcoins expert but its common sense. Its the same as any other thing worth something. Like I pointed out at the start. it will be manipulated and stolen just like all that stuff will. it will also fluctuate on price, more so than some things due to the true organic nature of the 'market' where hype and doom can cause mass spikes in all directions. But for right now the median price I would say is 250 per unit. So less than they youre getting a deal. more than that you might be overpaying. And even that 250 might be low, prior to this last "theft" (by a scam outfit not even working in bitcoins) the price was steadily above 300 per unit from Oct to Jan, most of that time they were above 350.

Thing is nothing is backed by anything anymore. So to claim theyre worthless because of that is shortsighted and foolish. Theyre here to stay, they have been around for 4 or 5 years now and in two of them they have been used a lot and have gained a value of their own. What that is is unknown but to think theyre going ot suddenly become useless is also stupid because people with real money still own a lot of them and until they completely cash in they will keep the price at a number they can live with.

End of the day bitcoins as an 'investment' an obvious gamble but right now less of a gamble and more of an opportunity than sports betting (for a majority here).

As a means to move money a no brainer. Especially if a possible 3-4% loss isnt a real issue to you. Or if the other end picks up any loss or is willing to pay price at time of purchase.
