Wow, they really have a hell of a team on paper. Even better than last year when they had the best team on paper. No excuses in 2015. At least the Giants probably won't make the playoffs this year

Marlins and Jose Fernandez will challenge them as a wild card.

If the Mets were smart enough to get Dee Gordon ( F U Alderson) then they would be the team to challenge them.

Should be a near-lock for the division but anything beyond that is a crapshoot.

    Why even watch the season?

I don't watch baseball until late September

It has to be the worst professional sport right now to watch

Zimmerman, or Fister will probably get traded by the trade deadline. Both have one year left on their contracts, and the Nationals will want to get something in return. Scherzer is just insurance for when they lose one, or both of them.

I say trade Strasburg before trading Zimmerman. Or hell even trade Gio before trading Zimmerman.

I love Zimmerman he is the most consistent pitcher they have!

nats can't afford all those contracts. Stras and Harper will be getting fat contracts soon. I believe their shortstop will too.

Side note I rather have a younger Zimmerman than pay scherzer

The Mets need way more than Dee Gordon to help their offense.

Stras and Harper are choke artists.

Like you said, Zimmerman's better anyway, yet they'll trade him. This is a loser franchise that didn't get better with this acquisition. Should deal SS, but they won't because he's the "star," even though in reality he's a No. 3.

$180 million for a guy with one career complete game. Yeah, good luck with that.

i don't know if you can call them a losing franchise. They just haven't learned how to win in the post season.....but you can say the same about most franchises..

i'm not a huge SS fan myself...i would trade him as well.

Even with that series, he's a .200 career postseason hitter with a .238 slugging %. And overall, his numbers just aren't very good. Overhyped. Harper and Stras both.

I read the deal is 7 yr 210M 14 yrs paid at 15M. That is a lot of deferred money to be paying a guy later on especially if he breaks down and no ring is won. Imagine paying 15M for 7 yrs after the guy has moved on to other things.

    Basically assures Zimmermann is gone.

They knew he was leaving anyway (wants to go home), perhaps trade him now and get something in return.

    2016 he'll be a brewer.
