    Cubs sign Jon Lester

The Cubs will sign Jon Lester, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal tweets. Lester will receive six years and $155MM, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports notes (on Twitter). The Red Sox’ final bid was six years and $135MM. Passan notes that the Giants were willing to sign Lester for seven years and around $168MM, but Lester took less money to pitch for the Cubs.

Disagree. I feel it was quite the opposite.
Had one of his best years, and this contract is more than he deserved.
He was an overacheiver on a team with an insane offense for years. He will be .500 for the Cubs in all likelihood.
I'm not saying he's awful, he's definitely a solid pitcher, but will be interesting to see how his numbers alter now being on a shitty team.
But MLB is all about overpaying guys for one big year right now.
It's a trend that has not fared well for most teams.
I think the only contract I have seen so far this off-season who didn't get overpaid was Stanton. He was worth and will be worth every penny.

Theo got the money from the brass to pay Lester, for the Cubs it's a good signing.

I'd rather have Hamels than Lester.

Six years at over $25 million per to a 30-year-old with a 3.58 career ERA. Unreal.

If the BoSox get Hamels, they come out ahead.

They need pitching, what they have too much of are shortstops

Good for the Cubs. Spend that money and lose. I'm ok with it.

Too much coin for a mediocre pitcher. He will be 11-10 this year.

He's on the decline because he's given up 2 runs on opening day? Good lord.

D2, I apologize for being a prik. I just feel Cubs would be better off short and long term without the signing of Lester. I think hammels is superior now if Cubs managed to get him. But no one was able to pull that off

Phillies have been wanting the stars and the moon for him. Best shot would be to try it near the trade deadline, but even then they might have to take what they can get. If they wait until the end of the year, it could bite them in the rear because there will be several free agent pitchers.
