Why shouldn't elite baseball players make gobs of money?

Do elite neuro surgeons make piles of $$$?

    Tops of Wall Street firms?

7 billion people on the planet

750 people play in the major leagues

The elite of those 750 shouldn't make a ton of $$$$$?

    GTFO with that.

the problem is not the elite sir.

the problem is how players who have no use are making gobs of money.

i think you are the only one on this site who thinks baseball players should be getting millions.

    ryan howard

    albert pujols

    prince fielder

    mark teixera

TV deals ruined everything. Now you've got billionaire owners who have more money than they know what to do with handing out their $$$ like it's candy. Doesn't even blip their radar.

Meanwhile, it costs a family of four about $500 to go to a game.

The whole environment makes me sick.

You're right. It's not like MLB or NBA is flooded with dead-weight guaranteed contracts or anything.

The "elite" of those 750? Goes way beyond that. Check a list of who makes what and get back to me on the "elite."

    Exactly.

What's pathetic is seeing fans defend it instead of taking a stand against it. Nothing worse than a jock sniffer who buys his 3XL Carmelo jersey and drops the mortgage on tickets so he can go watch him shoot 30% from the field as the Knicks go 27-55 again.

Like I've said before, teams own the "rights" to players for too long and they have to either go through arbitration or play it safe and take a deal that could make them underpaid in their prime (mid to late 20s).

Guys usually get their paydays around the age of 30 based on previous success. In reality, that's when the decline starts. The irony of it all is that both the teams and and the player already know this.

what amazes me is how the teams can afford to pay these players this much

how does baseball make so much money in this day and age where NFL and NBA are king?

    half the stadiums are empty

Still don't understand why teams don't use the model of getting the most out of guys in their prime and then dumping them when they are "owed" that money. Just keep recycling/replenishing young, hungry talent. Fans may get angry if you let go of a "star" player when he's 28, but they'll thank you for it when you win year after year.

    Exactly.

I guarantee Smoke was in Detroit last night watching Josh Smith pull down 0 rebounds in 31 minutes, cheering him on and asking for his autograph afterward. Smith made $45 grand last night, which is more than Smoke's salary in the last three years combined.

    A bunch of fvcking suckers.

    He is underpaid.

How come no one ever talks about underpaid?

Why does no one give a s h i t that dirt bags on Wall St make more?

    t-wizz just pointed it out.

Fernandez, if healthy, will get a $300 million contract when he's 28. Then he'll pitch for two more years, break down, and you'll never hear from him again as he cashes checks until he's 40.

Who said anything about letting the "dirtbags" on Wall Street slide? We're talking about sports. This is a sports forum.

State of NBA is sad. Absolutely no fresh new talent. All the young guys coming up are maybe all star caliber but no stars no dominate players. NFL, MLB they got up and coming dominant stars, NBA dont got shit but a rehab facility for over paid athletes.
