I have won 22 straight bets, still not winning in week. huge sports betting lesson.

basically last month was a month to remember i was up a bunch of units through football, early season hockey, etc. ....like a lot of units, but bet a little outta my comfort zone $$ wise. but hit a lot of plays, especially my big ones.

i started going on a huge heater, but then lost on for a week straight, lost nothing crazy.

Sat there up about 30 units (or what should be units, i kinda just bet whatever the penetrate i want wen i want , The keyboard and enter button is a dangerous thing)

I told myself I was going to stay cool, lower my unit size like it should have been, but the compulsivity continued as I won a few more bets.

Then I started losing again, a few big plays, unneccesary big plays.

    frustration ensued.

Made a huge play on Seahawks ML against the Rams, they lose.

Now i'm pressing, feeling the pressure of losing all the money i had "earned."

Sunday night came around, and I did love the Packers (@saints, SNF) and for good reason, I do not regret the PLAY, but I regret the BETS I PLACED, and HOW ABSURDLY LARGE THEY WERE)

I really would bet the Packers in that situation again, and it would lose and I would be OK with it.

But my impulsivity and mental retardation caused me max bet their team total, their moneyline, and them +3.
I was lucky i impulsively made a huge bet on randall cobbs prop (it hit, fortunately)

But still, these max bets , not my unit max bet, my sites max bet, which is way to much money I should never risk.

    obviously they lose.

i am now down a boatload.

I go back to drawing board, knowing I have probably hit over 70% in the last month, this should not be the case.

I now am flat betting 1-8 units, and sticking within mostly 1-5 , $25-$200. I had over $1800 on the Packers.

I HAVE SINCE GONE LIKE 22-0 SINCE HALFWAY THROUGH YESTERDAY, WHETHER JUST SMALL PLAYER PROPS OR BIG PLAYS LIKE COLTS, AND OVER TONIGHT.

BUT THE BITTERSWEET ENDING- I AM STILL DOWN, FROM THAT ONE PACKERS GAME.

LESSON HERE IS, THAT IM SURE ALL OF YOU HAVE LEARNED, AND I HAVE NOW LEARNED AS A YOUNG GUN NEW TO SPORTS BETTING, NEVER EVER EVER GET SO CARRIED WITH ONE GAME WHERE YOU CAN DO THIS TO YOURSELF.

IF THE PACKERS WOULD HAVE HIT, I WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT BACK AND PROBABLY EVEN MORE BETTING LIKE THAT.

    YOU CAN'T WIN LIKE THAT.

    YOU JUST CANNOT DO IT

GOOD LUCK TOWARDS THE END OF 2014 GUYS. LETS END IT OFF STRONG.

It's so difficult to win because its natural instinct to increase your unit size as you win. Glad to hear you're getting it back.

Up 22 bets in a row. I hear if you doubled up your bets every day starting with a penny, in a month one is a millionaire.

    .
looks like you figured it out and on the right track but that definitely was your problem.

Flat betting = one number, not a range of numbers. You can't flat bet one unit and then on another play flat bet 3, 4 or any other number. If this is something you want to do long term, find a unit size and stick with it. When you're up a bunch then you can have some fun and make a big play.

Hard to separate emotion from it all but if you can then its much easier to stick to a plan. I feel bad for OP as this is a mega killer for some/most of us. Probably harder for those that are passionate about the game as well. Anyway nothing wrong with admitting your faults and knowing who you are. Good luck in the future Mike

Did something similar on Sunday. Lost $2400 in 2 games Denver and then Baltimore and gave back 50% of what I had made past 2 weeks.

I should not have bet the NE/Denver game knowing the weather and how NE plays against Manning but still did it.
I had a Denver -3 as the last leg of a 5 team parlay paying 25/650 and I doubled up and put another 500 in straight bet, put another 500 in live betting. Went on heater and put 800 on Baltimore and lost some more live betting.

If I stay away from the Denver game then I don't lose a single dollar cause before that game I was down only by 200 and had Rams pending and Oakland +20 (teaser) pending obviously both won and I would have been close to zero for the week entering the Sunday Night game. I would have still bet Baltimore but nowhere close to the 800 I put on em.

Bad really bad thing to do on my part.

then i cry here on SBR in hopes of people talking me out of suicide. SBR is a good coping tool.

My personal rules on sports gambling:

    1. Money management. Bet less than 5% of your total current bankroll per bet. Be discipline.
    2. Be a strategic gambler by picking your spots and wait for the right opportunity. Never be a compulsive gambler by betting because it's your favorite team or for the action. Do your research.
    3. Stay emotionless all the time. Bet like a robot. There's no place for emotions in this profession. Be unbiased.
    4. Do not judge a team based on what they did last week.
    5. Never bet on heavily juiced/vig lines. Like a line at -1000 for example.
    6. Never bet on heavily valued lines. Like a terrible team at 100 to 1 odds to win championship.
    7. Parlays should be no longer than 2 teams, the bigger the parlay is, the bigger the House Edge. Research and Secure your first pick before moving on to your second pick.

    8. Teasers should never pass through the zero.

Maximize your odds by betting on 7 point teasers on sides.
Ignore teasers that are 6 point, 6.5 point and on totals.
Teasers and Parlays give the sportsbooks the most house edge.
If you had to bet on one of these, it would be on the 7 point teaser.
    http://wizardofodds.com/games/sports...g/appendix/10/
    http://wizardofodds.com/games/sports...ng/nfl-parlay/
    9. Teams with home field/court advantage tend to win games. Sportsbooks know this and favorites the home team.
    "Whoever is first in the field and awaits the coming of the enemy, will be fresh for the fight;
whoever is second in the field and has to hasten to battle will arrive exhausted." -Sun Tzu, the Art of War
    10. Never bet on double digit road favorites. You will lose in the long run.
    11. Never bet on preseason games on any sport. Predicting on 2nd string teams is stupid because of the lack of game footage on mostly unknown players.
    12. Understand how to bet on underdogs ML and ATS:
    http://www.wagerminds.com/blog/nfl-h...d-ranges-2496/
    13. If you are extremely compulsive, arrogant, drunk and biased. The best advice is to "Don't Gamble".
    14. Learn from your mistakes. Most gamblers don't learn from their mistakes. That's why I made these gambling rules.

    A lot of good advise.

I'd stay away from blanket statements like never bet double digit road favs. I've bet plenty, and I'm up huge on a 4 year sample.

ive found that when betting large sums of money on football, if you're delusional and refuse to learn from mistakes, you'll be broke in short order.

so big money forces a logical approach. Unless you're a simplistic degenerate.

    It's hard to win mike.

one of the things I struggle with. And I've ran absurdly well. Is that the loses hurt more than the wins feel good.

so I'm pretty much miserable for 4 straight months. Even on big winning days, that +350 ML dog that was up 2 scores with 5 min left and ends up losing in overtime, stings way more than it should.

but it's certainly worth it for the rest of the time, when I don't have to take orders from some jagoff, and I can go spend a month backpacking through Europe, or go spend a month chilling on a beach in Thailand fcking 17yo's

so I'm only really happy, when the season is over and I have 95k in cash, nothing to do, and can spend 25 or 30 without too much damage over the next several months.

That way its not all one play
