NFL Player News for Week 9 - Weekend Edition

    Courtesy of FootballGuys

CIN - RB Giovani Bernard OUT - RB Jeremy Hill to start in Week 9
    Source: ESPN.com - Cole Harvey
Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill will start in Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars with RB Giovani Bernard (hip) ruled out. The team is also unsure if Bernard will be able to play in Week 10 against the Cleveland Browns Thursday, Nov. 6, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. Hill has 195 yards and three touchdowns on 50 carries this year. Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson is confident that Hill can carry the load with Bernard out. RBs Cedric Peerman and Rex Burkhead will also see repetitions.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hill should get at least 20 touches in a game the Bengals should control against the Jaguars. We can't think of a reason to leave him on your bench this week.

CIN - WR A.J. Green questionable
Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora
Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (toe) is listed as questionable for Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora believes Green will be active.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Bengals have a very winnable matchup against the Jaguars, so one would assume that they wouldn't rush Green back onto the field. Mohamed Sanu's attractiveness as a WR or flex option this week is affected by Green's status, although Green seems like a must-start if the Bengals deem him ready to play.

DAL - QB Tony Romo could be game-time call
    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer
Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) missed his third straight day of practice Friday, Oct. 31, and he'll have to be able to move better before being allowed to play in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Jason Garrett said the team doesn't need to know before Sunday, Nov. 2, if Romo can play. Romo has had treatment on his back all week, but he hasn't done any football activities. QB Brandon Weeden would receive the start if Romo can't play.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Our Dr. Jene Bramel said Romo probably only has a 50-50 shot of finishing the game if he does start. Don't risk him in your lineup. The good news is that Brandon Weeden was actually serviceable and could keep Dez Bryant's value afloat, and give some encouragement to Jason Witten and Terrance Williams owners.

CLE - TE Jordan Cameron won't play in Week 9
    Source: CBSCleveland.com - Daryl Ruiter
Cleveland Browns TE Jordan Cameron (concussion) didn't practice all week, and he won't be available to play in Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also missed two games in 2012 and one last year due to concussions. TEs Jim Dray and Gary Barnidge will carry the load without Cameron playing. Dray has nine catches for 118 yards and a touchdown this year, while Barnidge has five grabs for 54 yards.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Cleveland plays again on Thursday night, so his owners should be making alternate plans at tight end for Week 10 too.

DEN - RB Montee Ball ruled out
    Source: NFL
Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) did not practice Friday, Oct. 31, and has been ruled out for Week 9 against the New England Patriots.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Ball's return date is still very uncertain, and there have been no signs that he is close. With Ronnie Hillman outplaying the level Ball was at before getting hurt, the Broncos should be in no rush get Ball back out there.

    WAS - Robert Griffin probable
    Source: Vikings.com
Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (ankle) practiced in full for the third straight day Friday, Oct. 31, and is probable for Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Griffin is still a very risky play in his first game back from injury, but if he looks good in the Jay Gruden offense we've only gotten to watch him in for a little over a game, it could be a preview of a solid second half in fantasy leagues for him.

SD - RB Ryan Mathews ruled out
    Source: Chargers.com
San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 31, and has been ruled out for the team's Week 9 game.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Mathews should return in Week 11 against the Raiders, but expect him to share with Branden Oliver for the rest of the year. Donald Brown is also healthy again, so this could be a tough situation to decipher when all three backs are on the field.

NYJ - WR Percy Harvin a focal point of offense
    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling
New York Jets WR Percy Harvin played 44 of 84 snaps in his debut with the team in Week 8, lining up in the backfield and running some deep routes. The Jets are making it a point to immediately get the ball into his hands.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Harvin had three targets 30 yards or more downfield, and he should continue to lead the team in targets in addition to getting some touches as a runner. His value certainly hasn't gone down since being traded away from the Seahawks.

STL - WR Kenny Britt probable
    Source: StLouisRams.com
St. Louis Rams WR Kenny Britt (hip) practiced in full for the second straight day Friday, Oct. 31, and is probable for Week 9 against the San Francisco 49ers.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Britt will get a chance to be the #1 receiver for the Rams in the second half of the season. He's worth rostering to see what happens against the 49ers this week as a sign of what is to come down the stretch, but the odds are against him in the Brian Schottenheimer offense with Austin Davis at QB.

TB - WR Vincent Jackson probable
    Source: NFL
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson (rib) fully practiced Friday, Oct. 31, and is probable for Week 9.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jackson made it through the trade deadline without a deal sending him to another team, but it's not clear whether that is a good thing for his fantasy stock. If he has another dud against the Browns, Jackson will be hard to trust in Week 10.

ARI - WR Michael Floyd fully practices
    Source: DallasCowboys.com
Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 31, and is probable for Week 9.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Floyd gave his owners a zero last week, but the matchup against the Cowboys looks like a good one, so don't be afraid to go back to the well in a week with many top receivers off on bye.

HOU - RB Arian Foster probable for Week 9
    Source: HoustonTexans.com
Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 31, but is probable for Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
At least it's not a hamstring issue. Foster feels one of the riskiest backs in the second half of the season with respect to durability, but he also is an elite RB1, which are in short supply. There's no reason to change his outlook based on this limited practice.

CLE - Isaiah Crowell wants to be more involved
Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich
Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell, who played just three snaps and had one carry for one yard in Week 8, is hoping he'll be more involved in the game plan in Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. RB Ben Tate played 31 of 56 snaps and had 15 carries for 26 yards last week, while RB Terrance West played 22 snaps and had seven carries for 11 yards. Crowell continues to lead the team in average yards per carry (4.9) and rushing touchdowns (four). He dropped two pitches and had a fumble in Week 6, but Crowell insists that he doesn't have ball-security issues.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Crowell appears to be the most talented back on Cleveland's roster and the Browns have expressed a desire for one back to emerge, but he hasn't gotten that shot yet because of fumbles and practice performances. The loss of all-world center Alex Mack has taken the luster off of the most dominant running game of the first half of the season, so chasing Crowell's speculation value is also losing its shine, but don't be surprised if he finishes the season atop the depth chart.

NYJ - WR Eric Decker listed as probable
    Source: NewYorkJets.com
New York Jets WR Eric Decker (hamstring) practiced in full for the third straight day Friday, Oct. 31, and is probable for Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Decker seems to be 100% again, but the Jets pass offense has been flatlining and it's hard to say whether Percy Harvin's presence will help or hurt Decker's prospects.

IND - WR Reggie Wayne a full participant
    Source: Colts.com
Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne (elbow, rest) practiced in full Friday, Oct. 31, after sitting out Thursday, Oct. 30.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Wayne looks like a go for Monday night, which is a bummer for Donte Moncrief owners, although he could still have "what the heck flex" status as long as he is the steady #3 wide receiver in this prolific offense.

BAL - RB Justin Forsett probable
    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com
Baltimore Ravens RB Justin Forsett (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 31, and is probable for Week 9.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Forsett's ankle interfered with his practice participation earlier this week, but this full practice should allow you to feel good using him as you normally would.

BAL - Friday practice report for Week 9
    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com
Baltimore Ravens WR Michael Campanaro (thigh) and CB Jimmy Smith (foot) both did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 31, and have been ruled out of the team's Week 9 game. DE Chris Canty (wrist) and OG Marshal Yanda (knee) both fully practiced and are questionable. DT Haloti Ngata (shin), LB Terrell Suggs (neck) and CB Lardarius Webb (non-injury) all fully practiced and are probable.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Smith's loss is a big blow for the Ravens defense, which could have more trouble defending the suddenly high-flying Steelers passing game. This could mean a bump for Ben Roethlisberger, Markus Wheaton, and Martavis Bryant in your rankings this week.

HOU - OLB Jadeveon Clowney unlikely to play
    Source: HoustonTexans.com - Deepi Sidhu
Updating a previous report, Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney (knee) is unlikely to play in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles. 'It doesn't look very good for him playing Sunday,' head coach Bill O'Brien said.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Clowney could provide the other half of a lethal duo to opposing offenses with JJ Watt once he can play. We're excited to see what he can do, but don't expect a big impact in IDP leagues right away. His durability was mentioned at times in the run-up to going #1 overall, and it has been an issue in his rookie year.

SF - Stevie Johnson not frustrated with role
    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco
San Francisco 49ers WR Stevie Johnson, who is behind WRs Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree and Brandon Lloyd on the depth chart, isn't frustrated by his role in the offense. Johnson has 25 catches for 315 yards and three touchdowns this year, and he had 1,000 yards receiving in three of his four years with the Buffalo Bills. “No frustration at all,” Johnson said. “(The) only sense of frustration is being a competitor, you know, wanting to do more. But it ain’t like there’s a bunch of pansies in front of me.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Johnson (and Brandon Lloyd) are playing as well as they did in their heydays, which is great for Colin Kaepernick, but bad for Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin, as the WR opportunity is now being split four ways in an offense that tends to skew run-heavy when the 49ers dictate the game to their opponents.

PHI - RB Darren Sproles expected to play
    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com
Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles (knee) practiced in full Friday, Oct. 31, and is probable for Week 9 against the Houston Texans.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Sproles is a "what the heck flex" play, with a better chance of big plays on the turf in Houston than he has on grass at home.

IND - RB Trent Richardson off injury report
    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (hamstring) is not on the injury report for Week 9, and should be able to play Monday, Nov. 3.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Richardson was only active as an emergency third back last week, but he should get his typical workload of 15-20 touches on Monday night, allowing him to fulfill flex play value for Week 9.

NYG - RB Rashad Jennings aiming for Week 10
Source: The Star-Ledger - Jordan Raanan
New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (knee) is aiming to return for the Week 10 game against the Seattle Seahawks.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jennings needs to get back in football condition and make sure his knee is fit for the wear and tear of a feature back workload before getting back on the field. He should be a solid RB2 with RB1 upside in the second half of the season.

DEN - RB Ronnie Hillman to have normal load
    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold
Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman (shoulder) is expected to have his normal workload in Week 9, despite his limited practice repetitions.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hillman should have a nice game at the same site where Knowshon Moreno had 37 carries as a member of the Broncos last year. Consider him a strong RB2 play in this week with six teams on bye.

    SEA - S Kam Chancellor a game-time decision
Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell
Seattle Seahawks SS Kam Chancellor (groin) will be a game-time decision for Week 9 because of his groin injury, according to head coach Pete Carroll.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Seahawks could be without their two main forces in the middle of the defense with Bobby Wagner out and Chancellor a game-time decision, but the Raiders aren't equipped to greatly take advantage of this. Darren McFadden and perhaps Mychal Rivera would be the two players to exploit the soft backbone of the Seattle defense.

    The Latest News

    Quarterback

*** Friday Update *** QB Tony Romo (DAL) did not practice on Friday and is officially questionable to play this weekend. Romo will wear added Nike Combat gear protection in his undershirt if he plays in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals. He has worn a rib protector since he became the starter and when he suffered a punctured lung and broken rib, it was protected by Kevlar. Head coach Jason Garrett has no rules against a player playing on game day without practicing all week. He'll have to be able to move better before being allowed to play in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Jason Garrett said the team doesn't need to know before Sunday, Nov. 2, if Romo can play. He has had treatment on his back all week, but he hasn't done any football activities. Brandon Weeden would receive the start if Romo can't play.

"I think I just have to continue to work through practice and in the game, just trust it. Trust my footwork, trust the pocket. Just because I made a few mistakes, I'm not going to not throw it when I don't have my feet under me. It's decision-making where I really have to get better."
*** Friday Update *** QB Robert Griffin III (WAS) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend. Griffin received the majority of the first-team repetitions in practice this week, and Griffin feels completely healthy and ready to return to the starting lineup. "If there is any rust, I'll lean on the guys," Griffin said. "It's a game we need. They have a great defense, but I'll lean on my guys to help get me through this game and work with me. I expect them to make a ton of plays, just like they expect me to make a ton of plays. If there is any rust, I'm sure they'll overshadow it because they're playing at a high level right now." He won't be limited at all, meaning the read-zone option is a possibility, along with plays that require him to leave the pocket.
