Stanton deserves the NL MVP
Kershaw is amazing.
Kershaw has played in 24 games.
Stanton has played in 143 games and he is leading almost every critical offensive category.
Marlins lost 100 games last year. They're 3.5 games out of the 2nd Wild Card spot right now. They would be BURIED without Stanton.
Cy Young is for pitchers.
MVP is for positional players.
Do the right thing, MLB.
only if the Marlins get a wild card birth.
MVP has to play for a playoff team IMO.

I wish the Astros would trade for him, and then sign him to a long term deal. Houston would be an automatic wildcard contender.

Stanton will win it easily.
You most likely will never see a pitcher ever win it again no matter how great a season he has.
It's been accepted as hitters award now.
Pitchers shouldn't even be allowed to get votes since they have their own award anyway.
And oh by the way, how juicy is an MVP for Stanton for next year?

Stanton got hit basically in the left eye.

What's bizarre about it? They both swung. I hope Stanton's ok cuz that was awful but the umps made the right calls.
The ball either hit Johnson's bat (foul ball) or hit his hand/wrist/arm (hit by pitch). Those are the only 2 options.
Please explain how a swinging strike was the right call.
Because they swung...and did not hit the ball...
I've watched the replay no less than 12 times.
The ball either HIT THE BATTER or HIT THE BAT.

I thought there was discretion involved, though.
What we have here is 2 batters getting hit by a pitch and one strike out being recorded.
We may never see that happen again in our lifetime.

What if you are first hit by the pitch and THEN you swing?
It is still a swinging strike as long as the action is continuous.
The pitch to Johnson was tailing in a bit and very high but pretty much right over the plate. Johnson loves crowding the plate and getting hit. I think he tried to get hit.
So what if the bat comes forward purely due to reaction to being hit on the hand. That doesn't seem right. Once the ball strikes the batter shouldn't the play be dead?
The ball is dead BUT the reactionary "swing" is still part of the play (goes back to the continuous part). Shitty if that does indeed happen but that is how the rule reads.
99% of the time the batter recoils, so it is rarely an issue.

Beside the point though. What the penetrate was Fiers doing throwing the very next pitch up and in? Right after drilling Stanton in the face with a penetrating heater? Then throws his arms up while looking at the Marlin dugout. Fiers is penetrating asshole. No way he threw at Stanton's face on purpose. But if the farm hand was that upset to continue, he should have removed his scrawny ass from the game. Like Redmond said, back to back up and ins, and he did not like hearing it from the Marlin bench? What the penetrate did Fiers expect? An early Christmas card?
