Remember last year the preseseason totals avg. in the low 30s. At the beginning of this season it was mid to high 30s. Now most are in high 30s to low to mid 40s. Crazy.
I always figure... if a team plays extremely defensive the first game... they want to open it up more and take chances the 2nd or 3rd game. Not saying they play sloppy.... the coaching staff just opens up the playbook more... and on defense calls different coverages to test out DB's pursuits and blitz packages. Usually leaves the door open for big plays. But clearly the totals are higher than expected.
there's that. but i also think the league maybe be getting into the ear of officials more so this week to call those jersey grabs by defenders more than 5 yds downfield. we might see a lot more flags this weeks, cause the league looks to really be wanting to test this new rule out.
