so nfl is experimenting with 35 yard extra point tries...

good for the books, bad for the sports bettors.

Should just get rid of field goal kicking all together. Never got where it all fit in with the game of football.

Hey Einstein you realize this was decided a long time ago, right? Everyone knew about this new rule for pre-season.

They actually have been talking about getting rid of extra points altogether.

Honestly, nobody would miss it after awhile. It's like getting rid of the home plate collision. A few traditionalists were up in arms about it when they first got rid of it, now nobody gives a shit.

Extra points are about as exciting as a kneel-down. I wouldn't miss it at all. But a 35-yarder wouldn't be the worst thing int he world I guess. It would probably all but eliminate the chance of a fake though.

Makes a part of the game that was a formality, into an incident that could actually decide a game. I'm all for it.

just imagine td's sometimes being 6 points instead of 7. important numbers such as 3 and 7 won't be significant. think about it for a second, that's better for the books. more uncertainties a game has, it's better for the books. we cap games to determine the outcome. this added variable is extremely significant, imo...

but the unders would be good since once you miss an extra point, it'll force the team to go for twos and two point conversion rate is like ~50%.

The more variables the better for the good bettor. It's just a matter of understanding the rule change, and thinking logically how this will affect the game and act accordingly. All changes are good changes when it comes to gambling IMO because as bettors we should do a better job of quantifying change than our competition.

yeah, I do not think the books will be able to post as efficient lines, ie 3,7,10,14....and could skew the totals numbers as well, 34,37, 44, etc etc.

Is this only a preseason thing? When will they determine if it's a go or not?

i don't know where you can find the data but all those missed extra point in the past has screwed up the spread one way or another.

we'll what happens if they do change it but i'm not a fan of more variables...

Sure it does but I don't see why just as many won't go in your favor as against you. Don't see why it's an edge for the book. It might be an edge for the strong bettor vs the weak bettor(biggest misconception in the sports gambling world is that it's the bettor vs the book. The harsh reality is it's the bettor vs the bettor the book just manages the position based on the bettors.)but it shouldn't give any xtra adv to the book imo.

I like the idea. They need to make all field goals minimum of 35 tho. Why do teams have to kick 35 yarders for 1 point but can still kick field goals closer?
