Poker Player Gets Knocked Out Of A $1-Million Tournament With An Unreal Bad Beat

    ESPN
    Connor Drinan
Connor Drinan suffered what one ESPN announcer said "might be the worst bad beat in the history of tournament poker" at a $1-million buy-in World Series of Poker Tournament.
He drew pocket aces and had only a 2% chance of losing the hand before the flop. But it all fell apart.
Drinan and Cary Katz both drew pocket aces. There was a 96% they would split the pot. The only way Drinan could lose is if Katz got a flush:
    <figure id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406732462000_1484" class="cover get-lbdata-from-dom go-to-slideshow-lightbox" data-orig-index="1"> </figure>

Katz got two hearts on the flop. Drinan, who was all-in, still only had 5% chance of getting knocked out at this point:
    <figure id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406732462000_1476" class="cover get-lbdata-from-dom go-to-slideshow-lightbox" data-orig-index="2">.</figure>
    ESPN
Another heart came on the turn. There was now a 20% chance that Katz would make a flush on the river and Drinan would be knocked out:
    <figure class="cover get-lbdata-from-dom go-to-slideshow-lightbox" data-orig-index="3"> View gallery
    .

Against the odds, Katz hit his flush on the river:

</figure> Drinan (in the sunglasses) was too stunned to react. Katz, to his credit, felt bad. Brutal:

It actually happened to me, no lie, back in my day online poker.

I had KK, flop comes Kh 2s 9s. I was at final table on Full-Tilt. I lead out at pot, guy tanks, then shoves all in.

    He flips over QJhearts.

    So we go all in!

Turn- 9 hearts, So I had full house.

    River- 10 hearts

Up, he drew a straight flush on me.

I'll never ever forget that hand.

I still made money of course.

Not as bad as the Rockies/Cubs total yesterday. 4 runs in the first. 3 runs in the next 15 innings. Talk about a bad beat. Horrible.

While they play that video... it should say "Sponsored by the SBR Poker Room" and have that one dude's "I can't believe it" photo as the poster guy for the Poker room. Where amazing happens.

When all the money goes in pre flop anything can happen. The sickest beats are when it goes in on the turn as a huge favorite and villain donkey punches you on the river. Most would be crying in a 1k event nevermind 1mega so gotta give Drinan some respect for taking it like a man.

You have no concept of tournament equity. Guy was eliminated 10 spots out of the money. There is no guarentee or even likelihood that had he chopped he would even make the money. If this beat happened in a $1000 tournament at a final table the loss would be much much worse in terms of tournament equity. If you're talking monetarily only then yes it's a brutal beat but still not one of the worst.

When i used to play ~100 90 man turbo knockout SnGs (16 tables at a time, multiple monitors) a day for my backer, you'd see utterly ridiculous shit. Just comes with the territory seeing that many hands per day. You see so many more hands per hour than playing live obviously

I have a similiar spot. With 3 people left in a 560 event I 3 bet shoved 18 bigs with KK and got called by KJ

flop is K92 turn 10, river Q. Came in 3rd.

The he runner runner straights and full houses seem to hurt much worse than the 4 flushes.

I was deep in the Sunday Million tourney on poker stars. Don't remember the exact preflop betting but I was isolated with 1 other player going into the flop holding 2 Kings.

Flop was 2 5 7 rainbow. I led out 2/3 pot. Guy shoved like 25 big blinds allin on me. I called.

    He flipped KQ suited.

    Turn Q

    River Q

Doesn't get much worse than that. And yes 1st place paid around 250K so it was "post worthy"

Especially since this guy was only drawing to a chop. It's not like he was 96% plus like all the examples you highlighted.
