Terrible trade for the Cubs. They got nothing of value back. Pure salary dump

Well it's a good trade for the A's, but they always seem to do better with guys nobody ever heard of. We will see.

He's still pretty far away from the majors. The problem with getting this guy is all the dough they sunk into Castro. Maybe one of them can be converted to 2nd base. That might work.

Wow such a great trade, really for both sides. Cubs get a top 10 prospect in return for a free agent signing no one wanted, and a guy who was going to bolt. Russell probably the best short stop prospect in the minors, he has a ton of power. He hit 17 HRS last year, 1 this year considering he missed so much time. Don't really understand the person who claims he is a long ways off, I am guessing he is up next year midseason with the cubs. Cubs fans really got something to look forward to in the near future, Baez and now Russell.

Pretty sure another good ERA Cubs pitcher was traded during the season recently to an AL team and that didn't make them WS champions.

Shocking deal and a great one for the A's. Not terrible for the Cubs either, but wow, Oakland is DEEEEEEP.

I love that they are going after it.....these guys fit in there almost perfectly. I hope they get this years' Hammel though....that would be my only worry in this deal.

Wow is right as an A's fan did not see this coming!! Oak is kings of mlb breeding their own pitchers and just playing "smart" old school baseball to win. Still get mad when I see No Coin refer to it as all luck lol. As a bases purest like me he should appreciate more what the A's do and have accomplished. But this is stepping out of the lane for them. Get em Oak!!

As a bases "purest" I just mean play, coach and scout smart. Don't rely on overpaying guys to play beyond 30 for extended long ridiculous contracts what they did in other teams uniforms cause you are too fukking lazy or stupid to do the legwork....wink wink Yanks, Halos and some others that have a bigger checkbook than brain

Pretty sad that the best tight end in Oakland plays for the A's.

I agree but this may be the exception. As far as this season goes, best case scenario for any contender with bats would be to land these two. As awesome as the shark is, Hammel is an incredible land as well, maybe better. Neither of these guys need many runs, but they'll get them from this lineup.

    Classic ALL IN vs. future

Good trade for both teams. Oakland wins now, Cubs win later. But if Oakland don't get dat ring, then they lost.

Would have been a good trade for ONE of the pitchers not both of them!!! Should have dealt then separately!!! Theo pushing out the timeline to infinity so he doesn't get exposed as the no nothing fraud that he is. Incompetence of the highest order in Chi town. If Beane is willing to make a trade with you, U GOT RIMMED!!!!

Oakland already looked like the champs.

Now this, tough to see them not making the WS.

Maybe but the A's may have a championship then and plenty of talent left. The Cubs may win the trade but will they ever win it all?
