Does anyone actually bet outrageous favored lines in tennis?

So I'm looking at the odds for upcoming tennis matches and they have Serena -10000, Sharapova -10000 and Rodger Federer at -15000!

I am assuming all of their opponents are scrubs, but do people actually lay this amount just to win $100!?

and how often do upsets happen when the lines are this high?

there is/was a poster in the tennis subforum who almost exclusively parlayed big favs together, I forget who
he had a very bad year last year and disappeared

funny you post this on day 1 of wimbledon, how soon we forget what's happened in the not-so-distant past:
    http://espn.go.com/tennis/wimbledon1...derer-advances

    plenty of other examples

I do but the only reason is that my local bookie offers me better odds on a certain match if I have 5 matches on the ticket. For example: Karlovic might be 1.40 tomorrow instead of 1.35 so I usually add one more reasonable favorite at around 1.20 and then Djokovic, Federer, Murray, etc.

    No

Some of them lose and kill your parlays . I think you will win some in early rounds but eventually big favs get you.

I always though it was just an option to give but the focus was on the other side and betting the upset.

I don't think a -10,000 favorite has every lost at Wimbledon on the men's side. Correct me if I'm wrong. There's just no way I can see a -10 grand fav losing.

Lots of us do outrageous parlays at the start of every grand slam. It's an SBR tradition.

most people on this board wouldnt bet a -10000 line because we dont have the principal to make a meaningful win from that. but there are people who can. you have to keep in mind that vegas will take 6 or 7 figure bets, so the lines have to be able to accommodate those kinds of wagers while offering the same line to all public bettors.

Federer was -10 grand to Staakhovsky? For sure? Cause Stakhovsky is a decent player, I would think Fedex like -3 grand at most at wimbledon in a match like that.

Problem for for the books is if u have the money to back it up, the player can't lose. Come with me to Vegas jj and I'll prove it to u

At decent books (ie pinnacle), it's actually the reverse: most of the juice is loaded on the underdog. That's even more true at slams than the rest of the year.

At Wimbledon you'd actually have made a decent profit if you bet everything shorter than 1.50 (-200), about 4% iirc. A few high profile underdog wins doesn't change that.

If they didn't, the books wouldn't bother offering them. Problem is you need to have a massive bankroll to make any $ from it and of course to be able to sustain the loss when one falls. For the average bettor though, those -10000 lines are useless but serve as useful parlay killers for books occasionally so it makes it all worth it for them.

Yes I'm sure, cuz I had $50 on stav that day. It was right after sharapova lost as a -10000 fav. Me, Shari, and few others were rooting it in lol

    Full of shit.

The day I stick a -10000 in a parlay of mine or even something anywhere close to that is the day I can take the hit and not feel the pain if it loses. Unless I win lotto it ain't happening.
