Now Germany vs. USA. Don't Fck us Klinesmann

do the two nations do each other a solid and kick the ball around for a tie? does klinesmann fck us over? Portugal wins vs. ghana, easy? what happens if this shit ends in a two-way draw? these are all things to ruminate on before the match.

i'd imagine both teams don't want to over exert themselves. Germany would want to eliminate Portugal, and they would definitely not want Ghana to advance after they went goal to goal with them yesterday.

Germany will not beat up on USA

Guess it depends on potential R16 matchups, who would group G go against?

has anyone watched a tournament soccer game where both teams only needed a tie to advance but a loss would mean elimination? how did the game play out?

There is no way Germany will play for a draw. What if USA score a goal on them and unexpectedly win? They will then finish 2nd or risk being ko if Ghana score enough goals in a win over Portugal.

Maybe if Germany fail to score at around the 80th min, then they will take the draw option.

correct Germany will be mad they didn't win their last game, and they'll show it. USA will make mistakes, I say Germany by 2

I remember this scenario happening last world cup, two teams (I can't remember which ones)... I was just trying to research it... it was a boring match and it did indeed end in a draw. I'm pretty sure this scenario plays out every world cup during the 3rd round of matches... there's always one or two games like this.

Edit: it was Brazil vs Portugal! 0-0 draw. There were some "moments", about two or three. Brazil could have lost and still made it though, I think the issue for them was that they wanted to be ready for their next match.

I think Portugal will sneak a win out versus Ghana or it's a draw.

USA loses 2-1 or 1-0 and advances. USA advances somehow, someway.

Lookingstart, interesting insight. Yeah it sounds like a boring game to come. From what I've heard Portugal winning vs Ghana would benefit USA most, cause of the 4 goal differential when Germany smoked Portugal. We shouldn't lose by 4 goals to Germany

Yup, that's the biggest issue that's left for both these teams, the winner will avoid Belgium, and most likely play Algeria.

    Germany beats US 2-1
    Ghana beats Portugal 2-1

USA because 3rd tiebreaker is head to head result

So if the US loses by just 1 goal....then the only way they don't advance is if Ghana wins by 2 or more or Portugal wins by 5 or more? Is that right?

Yes basically. The 1st tie breaker is goal difference (Currently US +1 Ghana -1) and the 2nd tie breaker is goals scored (US 4 Ghana 3).
