Cincinnati Reds Sign Jair Jurrjens to Minor League Contract

Remember when he was supposed to be the Next Big Thing with the Braves a few years ago?

The good news is that he is still only 28 and supposedly 100% recovered from the knee issues that held him to 13 games the last two years.

The kid stinks but he might be worth getting if he does well.

Here's to hoping he gets a shot at the major league level so we can take a few cracks against him.

Thing is we do not know how much the struggles he had had to do with his bum knee. We shall see.

    Great pickup by the Reds.
No risk obviously, you can only win here.
Had tons of potential and was pretty solid for a few years.
    Rooting for him to comeback.
Always liked his stuff when he was a kid.
And at 28, still plenty of time to get back to that form.

Shrewd signing. Shown he can handle the pros when healthy.

Kid was a stud when he was healthy, supposed to slip in as the brave 1 or 2.

I suppose the question now is, if healthy, does he still have the same level of velocity on his pitches?

That's who immediately came to my mind as well though he mainly had arm/shoulder troubles I believe. Certainly seems worth taking a shot on

I don't think he will turn out, but there is no risk at all in signing him. They need pitching depth, so why not take a gamble and hope to catch fire.

    I like the pickup.

Hopefully he does well & the Reds can trade him for some hitting...

Even if the arm isn't working he could probably swing the bat better then half of their position players

Absolutely a good sign. Why not? He is 53-37 lifetime with a 3.63 era . Had ONE losing season when he went 3-4 in seven decisions. MLB teams are desperate for pitching if this guys has anything left he is a great acquisition.

He was really good when he was right, it can't be costing the Reds very much to find out if he can come back to his old form.
