Anyone know the statistics of 1st free throw % vs. 2nd free throw % in NBA?

Just from watching it seems like if they miss the first free throw of 2 the second one is made 90% or more

Interesting. I've always wondered this too. I'd love to know stats on this going back for awhile to see if there is a statistical difference. I think it will be small though.

What is interesting in this area is that mathematicians/scientists have done countless studies which argued against there being any type of correlation from one shot to another in basketball, and there are numerous articles that show this (basically there is no such thing as a hot hand in basketball, which ironically every NBA announcer and commentator firmly believes...) However, there was a recent study done on free throws where researchers did find the individual shooting of free throws to be correlated. Here is a link to the study, it is a pretty interesting read.

lol you guys are looking too much into it, anybody thats ever played basketball at any level knows if you brick the first free throw, you're gonna adjust on the 2nd and know whether to shoot more short / long / flat / higher.

    It depends on the shooter.
