SMU got the biggest screw job. NC State took their spot.

I feel bad for Larry too. They did lose their last three games which didn't help their case, but two of those losses were against Louisville and Memphis. The Houston loss was bad, but they still should have made it.

The entire American conference got screwed. Louisville should be a 2/3, Cincy should probably be a 4, and UConn should probably be a 6.

That's awesome. Not sure why anyone argues the seeding, this conference had a low RPI all year. Ranked as the 8th conference according to RPI. People get caught up too much with the poll rankings. Those don't mean a damn thing.

Louisville is the only team I think that might have deserved to be up another line as at least a three.

AAC is still young and they're losing a big member next season. They don't have the big shot in tournament selection committee or the money to bribe anyone yet

Arizona St lost their last 3 too and unranked with a higher/worse bpi smu 33 asu 39 but they're in. Unbelievable. Either NC State or Providence winning the Big East tournament took their spot.

Providence had more quality wins and an automatic bid. They didn't take the bid. Providence winning title increased SMU chances dramatically

The UMass seeding is the biggest joke. Thought for sure they'd be a 8-10 seed.

Nobody has gotten screwed by the NCAA more than SMU has...I actually feel pretty bad for them, and this is coming from a Houston alum.

Won't matter, SMU will have to forfeit this season in a couple years when the NCAA catches them for whatever they are doing

And the rpi should mean a lot?

What was the third highest ranked rpi conference last year?

    Mountain west

How'd they do in the tourney?

I didn't say RPI should mean shit, but we all know the committee uses it heavily - so it does matter whether you like it or not and their conference as evidenced with the seeding that Louisville, Cincy and Connecticut got - obviously was not thought of as highly as others.

Well you're using it to support your argument by saying that all except Louisville were in the right place

Anyway smu will be stronger next year when Dallas kids start pouring in

This year was just the start

    But yes they got fukked

Based on the criteria the committee uses most years, RPI always is a large factor along with strength of schedule. They were handcuffed in both aspects as far as the conference RPI, their team RPI was respectable, but the strength of schedule out of conference of course was weak sauce.

SMU :fans: should enjoy the next year or two ... I just don't really have hope that Brown is running a clean program

This is gonna wind up being like Conference USA #2 in another year with the additions.

Did any of you guys listen to the selection committee chair's explanation as to why SMU got left out?

SMU's SOS was in the 300's. NC State's SOS was 21st in the country. For the selection committee to give SMU a spot over NCSU would basically contradict everything they've been saying to the coaches/AD's for years now about scheduling weak non-conf opponents. Virginia Tech got left out of the tournament field several years in a row even with wins over top 5 teams like Duke/UNC because their S0S was always in the 200s. SMU's was a 100 spots behind that. There might have been some more deserving teams than NC State, but SMU wasn't one of them. NC State scheduled far more quality non-conf games and they went 6-6 on the road/in neutral games. Those two things have always meant more to the committee than racking up and inflated # of wins in a weaker conference and playing a crappy non-conf schedule.

The fact that SMU was ranked is merely an indication of how stupid the media is and how much pull Larry Brown has.
