Why on Earth are the Reds considering trading Brandon Phillips????

I was watching the Reds spring training game yesterday and the announcer said he still would not be surprised if the Reds trade Brandon Phillips before the season is over....

What am i missing? He is one of the best defensive second basemen in the league he hit a respectable .280 hit 18 dingers and drove in over 100 RBI's

Are the Reds not considering themselves a World Series contender?

    Teams don't want to win
They probably don't want to pay him and save some money

It seems in Cincinnati fans come out anyway

I have to hear some concrete evidence that they would trade him. I don't think they would, if they did they should get something worthwhile

They already made it public that they offered him to the Yankees for Brett Gardner and the Yankees turned the trade down.

If i was the Yankees GM i would have taken that offer.

Phillips is 10X better than whoever will end up starting at 2B this year for the Yankees and they could have let Ichiro start in LF and Gardner has a history of being injured anyway.

BB, was it a straight up trade was there minor leaguers involved? sounds like the Yankees would have done that unless they know something or there was more to the deal

It was talked about but in typical Bear fashion way late. This was discussed last December
