Could be a great player if he gets his head right. O's not giving up on competing with the big guns, I like it.

He would probably immediately become the ace of the staff.

Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports that the Orioles are "working to finalize" a deal with Ubaldo Jimenez that's expected to be for four years and around $48 million.

The O's have struck out on other free agents to this point, whether by simply getting outbid or by the players failing to pass the team's extensive physicals. However, it appears they've finally caught a big fish. Jimenez has been up-and-down the last three seasons but finished with a brilliant second half last year, overall posting a 3.30 ERA and 194/80 K/BB ratio in 182 2/3 innings for the Indians. He could be the Orioles' Opening Day starter and will cost them their first-round draft pick.

When Jimenez is going good he is a solid #2/3 pitcher he is a solid pickup for the Orioles.

Several media outlets reported earlier that the sides had reached an agreement, which is reportedly for about $50 million over four years.
Jimenez went 13-9 with a 3.30 ERA in 32 starts for Cleveland last season. He turned down a $14.1 million qualifying offer from the Indians, so Baltimore would have to forfeit its first-round draft pick (17th overall) to sign him.

How is he a gas can? He had a VERY strong second half last year and his overall numbers were very good.

Well the O's are counting on him to be their ace, so hopefully he can handle it.

UBaldo was unreal for a short time with the rockies. Still a good pitcher but not elite

Question mark for me. Not thrilled with the signing especially having to pitch against the AL East. Pitched very well down the stretch and has incorporated his slider more often. The 2 seasons before last were pretty bad though. Eh we'll see how this works out.

how about that Korean pitcher Yoon the Orioles signed?

he is supposedly almost as highly touted as the Dodgers Ryu before injuring his shoulder...

but the potential for Yoon is there.

Um yeah, you got a problem with that? He is UNQUESTIONABLY the Baltimore ace once this deal is announced.

In fact, the very reason they went after him was because the Orioles did not have a bona fide ace the last two years, if they did, they would have beaten the Yankees in the playoffs two years ago and made a playoff run last year.

    ,
Not gonna go stat hunting on it but I'd take A 25 Year old Tillman over him for sure.
    Gonzalez isn't bad either.
What Was Umbaldo's ERA the 2 years before this one? Well over 5 probably.

And Jimenez was one of the best pitchers in the American League over the second half of the season last year, whatever it was that was bothering him, he figured things out and again looked like the pitcher that almost won a Cy Young while pitching in Colorado. And the Orioles would not pay 48 million for a guy and give up a first round draft pick if they were not getting an ace.

Baltimore has a bunch of good pitchers and young too, which is always good, but not one of them could be considered a go-to ace type. Jimenez could be that guy, not to mention adding some veteran leadership.
