I remember reading the much awarded and fawned over European graphic novel Persepolis wherein at one point characters start breaking the fourth wall and literally finger wag at the reader about the evil of the intervention against Iraq in Kuwait and the hypocrisy of how they wouldn't go to war to defend Afghanistan against the Soviets because they have no oil.
