Minimum wage needs to be abolished. Let the marketplace set its own wage rates.

Raising it in Ontario to $11...This year..

Think that's the highest in North America. Won't change much.

Affects so few people its sheer demagoguery and only fools fall for the argument. If its so important and necessary and meaningful why not raise it to $50 an hour? Just another question on the idiocracy test.

I read once they could make it $180/hour for everyone.

Unfortunately the 1% would oppose that.

    Capitalism vs communism

All these broke diks will never make that much an hour yet they would be opposed to it. Ironic.

Another step towards socialism......it's simply taking money out of the hands of the employer who wants to reward his top performing employees and giving it to those who just want to do the minimum.

Obama is hell bent on destroying small businesses and this is just another way of distributing money to those who want hand outs......quite a few minimum wage workers are on some sort of assistance.

Raising the minimum wage gives incentives to those who are less skilled so that they now get more money for unskilled labor. Abolishing minimum wage would make people more inclined to improve their skills, in theory. You're right.

If you are in your 30's or 40's, and have been working nothing bit minimum wage jobs all your life, then that is on you. You are the problem. If you are a teenager, or in your 20's, pay your damn dues, and shut the hell up!

Most employees are cutting jobs , benefits, wages, etc.
They don't give a shit who's top performing. Just another number.

This is not sports where you get rewarded big for playing.

People get jobs because they know someone and suck the right dicks not for working. That's 99%, you are talking about 1% if that.

I can't name one person who got a job without knowing someone.

Why should a ceo make billions on company who losses millions each year just because his father was the previous owner. Yeah rewarding hard work.

Better to raise wages AND cut welfare almost to none. That would be more incentive.

It doesn't matter - you can raise minimum wage which just increases the cost of goods sold. As costs go up, so must prices. In the end, the "real wage" that people make won't change. They will be able to afford just as much as they could today, just will have more dollars to pay for the more dollars things cost. In the very short term while prices catch up, the minimum wage earner will have more spending power but that goes away after a few years and we are back to needing to increase it again.

This is why u can never count out the Republican party. In a country with brains they wouldn't even get ten percent of the vote. Unfortunately like u said we have people who don't make much but think like billionaires, praying broke people make nothing at all. It is actually amazing that the Republican party can pull something like this off. To find this many stupid people all in one country. I guess it doesn't hurt when the other party lets them get away with it.

On the bright side people will be too broke to eat fast food and we'll have less people with heart problems. In the mid 80's people were making $3.00, in the mid 90's around $5, were close to 2015 so $9 dollars is about right.

Economics demonstrates that raising the minimum wage leads to increased inflation if all else is held equal.

It just is what it is.

Look at countries like Norway where the minimum wage is high. Their quality of life is 10x better than the US. Their country is not in debt or has inflation.

Actually Obama won both elections by getting the majority of the college vote, both students and professors as well as teachers.

Most republicans in Red states do not go to college or graduate HS and just vote what their fathers and grandfathers voted who also did not go to college.

Stats on the republican demographic?? Of course educators and kids in college are liberals. They experience everything in theory only. Many people are dem until they graduate and get some experience and a few paychecks. Then they turn republican.

Obviously there are supremely smart people on both sides of the aisle. Biggest problem is none of them are in DC. Smart people are too smart to become politicians!!

How about we look at a minimum wage in reverse?

Businesses have their break downs on business costs and profit. Their cost of goods goes up, so does their prices.

What about the workers? The minimum a person can make before they are in poverty is $10 an hour according
to the govt. Raise the minimum to $10 would still make them borderline.

Before looking for work, I add up all my bills and figure what amount per hour I will need to pay them. Anything
    over that is profit/ savings.

Yes I know, it's not a companies place to provide a worker with a living wage, but pay a wage they can live with.
That's what would happen if the market drove labor rates. Companies would make even more while the worker gets shit.

A jobs bill of giving tax breaks to companies who hire would increase hiring 10 fold, IMO. Why isn't one proposed?

I don't know if anyone posted this or not... because I didn't read all the posts.

The number one reason why he's raising minimum wage has ZERO to do for the people and their living/spending habits.

The #1 reason is payroll taxes. When you have a higher set minimum level... that's guaranteed revenue for the IRS. Mom and Pop businesses on their last leg now.

Hardly anyone is working at minimum wage. It's class warfare bullshit.

There is a reason some employment is called "entry level". You start there and later improve and find better paying employment. The idea is not to flip burgers into your 30's, 40's, and 50's.

It's not a hard concept. Now Mickey D employees want 15 plus an hour to do the job of a 16 yr old.

Inceased minimum wage just lowers the cost of working for a living and passes it on to those that do. Its a shame that this sort of tactic gets votes.
