    Chicago Cubs Question

gonna be in chitown to catch phils at cubs for opening day

someone gimme some tips on wrigley

i like the idea of sitting in the outfield but general admission blows....especially for 1pm on opening day when you prob have to get there at....8am?

are the rooftops any good? was thinking about going to a couple games that weekend and doing one in and one outside the park

Doors open 2 hours before. No need for 8am. Get there ~11am and catch batting practice and start drinking early. I'd pass on rooftops but that's just me.

remember outfield is bleachers and on opening day you'll have tons of knees in your back (no seatback) and a fat guy on onside of you dribbling his nachos on your lap.

I really like box seats down the first base line.

I haven't done the roof top since 2005ish. I think there a few more obstructions now. and it is possible depending on how the negotations go now there could be some big ones. but in most of them you can't see the plays close to the wall for about half the park.

I went to a Buccos/Cubs game a couple years ago. Sat in rightfield with the bleacher bums. Had a very good time; can't remember how early we got there, they were doing batting practice so it was probably an hour and a half before the starting time. Of course it was the Pirates in 2009 AND it was early July so yeah you better get there real early, especially if you're with a large group of guys (we had 10).

Rooftops are too far away imo. I just think the novelty would wear off after the 1st inning.

After the game I suggest Sluggers Bar and Grill. They have batting cages upstairs. Good times.

    Edit: That's some vertical Chi!

usually the food and beer is part of the ticket price at many of the rooftops... unlimited

I think prices are mid 100s to under 300 depending upon the rooftop.

have a buddy that works high up in the wal greens corporate offices around here. Walgreens does a give away that people can win a trip to wrigley batting practice. But some employees get to go with their fams as well. My buddy took me.

its only the coaches and 1-2 players that time it was Kendall and Sean Marshall.

you get flyballs for 10 mins and then infield for 10 mins and batting practice for 10 mins with your group of like 7-10 winners.

during infield the idiots around me couldn't throw it to the coach hitting ground balls, so I finally just went over there to shag for him.

i can't think of his name but he was a legendarily BAD hitter in his time with the Cubs

this was before smart cams so my pal had a real nice cam and took videos of my getting flyballs and hitting but he lost the footage before I ever saw it. only a few pics of me in the infield and dugouts survived. pisses me off to this day.

Favorite seats are probably 400 level. All rows are good. No obstructions anywhere here. Just about any seat in the 200 level behind row 6 will have anywhere from a slight to severe obstruction, so buyer beware.

Rooftops are cool during the summer on a nice day, but the experience is unlimited beer and food, not the game. You're too far removed from it to get the feel of being a part of the game.

Depending on your group size, bleachers are cool to do as well. with 2-3 people, you can usually find row 1-8 seats out there an hour before game time. If you do bleachers, hit up some bars before hand, get a nice buzz, and get in early to catch batting practice.

also, i believe old style is no longer sold in the stadium. I think last year was their swan song
