A team can only win one title in a given year, so yes, the 1986 Giants won a title. 1990 Giants won a Super Bowl too.

The 1986 Giants won during the prime of the Redskins & 49ers dynasty and the 1985 Bears were still going in 1986.

Joe won 4 rings. His first two were before Jerry Rice. He was throwing to Dwight Clark and a bunch on no-name guys.

You don't want to get numbers and reasons because they all point against Steve Young being great. Talk Tampa.

But these are reasons FOR Joe, not AGAINST Steve.

It's not exactly fair to dismiss Steve just because he inherited a prosperous situation and followed in the footsteps of a legend.

Steve should have had 3 rings with those teams. They were stacked in the 90's and they got one ring.

I'm just playing devil's advocate...I don't believe for a second Steve Young is worthy of top 5 consideration. I await Tooter's submission to bolster his argument on behalf of Steve Young. I am on my way to the refrigerator to score me a cold one. My work here is done.

Steve Young: 722 carries for 4,239 yards (5.8 YPC) and 43 touchdowns.
This one isn't even remotely close. Steve Young gained 2,572 more yards and averaged 2.2 more yards per carry. He also scored 23 more touchdowns in the process.

I'll bolster more since Tootie is too shy. Young was a bust with the Bucs. Young was a backup until he was 30.

Regular season is fantasy numbers. What did Young do against real teams in the playoffs? He was mediocre at best.

Joe Montana was selected to eight Pro Bowls while Steve Young was selected to seven.
Both quarterbacks were selected as First-Team All-Pro three times and they were also both selected as Second-Team All-Pro three times.
Joe Montana won three Super Bowl MVP awards to Steve Young's one. However, in that one Super Bowl, Steve Young broke Joe Montana's Super Bowl record of five touchdown passes by throwing six.
Both quarterbacks were two-time NFL league MVP award winners and both were two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year award winners. Joe Montana also won the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award in 1986

Yes, Steve Young was great. That's a fact few will argue. But top 5 all time is an elite class....Greatness alone doesn't guarantee you a spot on the Mt. Rushmore of football.

For me it really comes down to playoff wins. Steve Young had 8, compare that to McNabb who had 9, Steve Young is basically the white Donovan McNabb. Nothing wrong with that, but not the greatest of all time. Guys like Brady, Montana, Elway, Favre & Bradshaw have double that.

White McNabb? The guy put a ball in the tightest of spots, his accuracy was unreal... the way he ran with his feet combined with football smarts? The guy was a genius, plain and simple. He still is, Is he better than Tom or Joe? I dont think so. Is he in the same league as Favre or Elway ? You bet your ass he is.. You had to of watched him play as a Football player to see just how good he was.. Talk all you want about post-season or rings.. the guy put the best performance on in the biggest game there is out of any QB of all time and that's a fact 43 rushing TD's? Those #'s his smarts and class with the whole Joe thing? I would take him If i had to take 1 qb in one game out of that whole list.

If you want to bring up rushing yards, why not Cunningham n his 4900 yards, or Michael Vick. With 5800 yards. Seems like they both compete with Steve young.
