Saw this too. Now, they should just practice throwing the ball about 4 feet up from home plate and what are the base runners suppose to do then?

    this is terrible.

they are trying to make baseball a pussy sport just like they are doing with the NFL .

This is part of the game.

    Hopefully it gets voted down

Good question. Will the catcher have a responsibility not to block the plate like a fielder at other bases? Otherwise, what is the runner to do, try to go around? lol

I have feeling this will actually benefit the runners because I assume the catchers will be required to stand next to the base like a 2nd or 3rd baseman, which will make it easier to slide in safely. And if the throw is not accurate and the catcher has to move into the baseline, then the catcher will be violating the rule and I guess the runner declared safe. It will be a mess, guaranteed.

Good rule actually it serves no purpose in the game

When the plate was blocked the player was out anyway

Let's make it more like baseball now not football

if posey isnt man enough to play catcher have him play 1st base.

Yadier Molina i'm sure will invite any mother fukker out there that wants to try him.

It is part of the game. Too take it away is to take a part of baseball away and should not happen. If you can't handle it don't play.

I'm the opposite. I love strikeouts. Makes the game shorter so I don't have to spend half a day watching it.

if you like short games Mark Buehrle is a good guy to bet on.

not a strike out pitcher but gets a ton of ground balls and works fast.

Ban home plate collusions, but do nothing about the infield fly rule, DHs, and the fact that the All Star Game determines home field advantage?

    Well done, MLB.

Again, so will catchers be required to stand behind the base? That's going to go against all their natural instincts to go get it. I mean, I assume they won't be allowed to block the plate anymore. These guys have been playing catcher 10, 15, 20 and had blocking the plate drilled into them and now suddenly they can't. Good luck with that. This is going to be a mess, trust me. Lots of arguing over what the catcher and runner were supposed to do but maybe didn't. And then they'll be able to check it on replay. Fun.

You'd curl the fuk up in the fetal position and whimper if a major league ballplayer was about to steamroll your ass.

Stopping being so fuking e-tough and stick to posting moronic thread after moronic thread.

I enjoy potential violence as much as the next guy but I do like this rule change. Those are some hard ass collisions that arent really neccesary.

It's a great rule change. Allowing blocking the plate was always a dumb thing.

Since the coaches didn't tell their players that one run scored is not worth a career ending injury, especially during the regular season it took the league to step in and do it. Its about time! You think a Yankee fan wants Derek Jeter in the second game of the season to collide with a catcher at the plate, break his shoulder and miss the rest of the season, for what one run in a meaningless game. Since the athletes were too stupid too figure it out and the dumb asss coaches didn't tell them not to risk injury for one run the league did it. KUDOS to the League.
