World Cup Brazil - Pots Are Annouced

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/04/sp...by-4.html?_r=0

Using the world rankings from October, FIFA, the sport’s world governing body, had already said which countries would be seeded and land in:

Pot 1. They are Brazil, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium, Switzerland and Uruguay.

Pot 2 was given over to five teams from Africa and two from South America: Algeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Chile and Ecuador.

The United States is in Pot 3, with Iran, which precludes a first-round meeting between the countries. Pot 3 includes all four Concacaf teams (Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico and the United States) and Australia, Iran, Japan and South Korea.

Pot 4 has nine European countries, one of which will be switched to Pot 2 before the draw and placed in a group with one of the four South American teams in the draw. The pot includes Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, England, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Russia.

I really can't see there being a Group of Death. USA not that strong. Ghana/IvCoast not that strong at the moment.

Kagawa bench warmer for Man U.

Donovan is amazing especially for MLS standards.

    Dempsey very good midfield.

Anyone that is trying to tell that team USA is better than Japan doesn't know shit about soccer. Don't underestimate them next summer, cause they can screw any team over.

Why does anyone envision England as being anywhere near the level of competition in the rest of their pot? They are lucky to be the 6th best team in that pot.

As for a group of death, it is all but guaranteed that there is one. With one of the countries from pot 4 being paired with a south american country from group 1, there is a good chance we will see 3 top 15 teams if not 3 top 10 teams in a group.

Sorry but the system is flawed when Fifa's 13th best team (Their ranking not mine) in the world is essentially seeded as a 25 seed at best

no excuses at all but the situation sucks....atleast if the USA advances out of the groups no one can say they didn't deserve it

Japan has 1 stud in Honda....Kagawa is good but overall as a team I'll take the US at full strength....people acting like Japan is that much better where there isn't even a discussion are morons.....Japan deserves to be in a better draw with the the US agreed. They are both dangerous teams that can cause havoc

Fifa ranking is flawed as well. Switzerland only managed to get into the 8th place in the last month and because of that, they got seeded. Anyone who watched soccer will place Italy, Netherlands and probably Portugal over Switzerland and Uruguay.

WC is never fair in the 1st place. If it's fair, every continent should be sending the same number of nations.

Klinsmen at the helm is the best chance the U.S. will ever have and the U.S. will still lose.

North America could only send two teams under your "fair" world cup (Canada and U.S.).

So you want a 14 team World Cup? lol.

I agree the rankings are flawed but if they are gunna use them to have Switzerland in the seeded pot, then how does it make sense to have #13 USA in the last pot?? Do you not see the inconsistency in FIfAs own rankings and the process?

They will still lose....so will 30 other teams

No one is saying the US will win the World Cup but last I checked it's not a crime to support your country and root for them to make it as far as possible...we have a good enough team this time around where it could get interesting

Italy and holland didn't get seed cause they played shitty exhibitions which dropped there avg points. Anyways brazil or argentina will win the wc. Europe has no chance in south america.

Obviously still using the FIFA grouping format. North America will be under the concacaf, Asian countries under Asia zone and etc.

Yes but there is no fair way to decide who is really better. The best way is to decide it on the pitch. If a team is good enough, they should be able to win enough games to make it to the next round.

That's not how you phrased it, though.

You said the same amount of teams for every CONTINENT.

It doesn't matter though, none of us are Sepp Blatter.

They are first drawing one of the 9 teams from pot 4 and pairing them with one of the 4 South American Teams from pot 1. This will assure there are not 3 UEFA teams (Spain, Italy, Portugal for example) in the same group.

Once Kagawa stops bench warming for Man U and I see how he plays I might have a different opinion. He has little to no impact in his team, unlike Donovan who carried US through the world cup 1/16th round.

Dempsey is IMO better than Honda, he impressed in the Premier League.. Honda plays in CSKA against sht teams and he still flops and is inconsistent as hell.
