really weak racing cards on a monday but new facility draws them in i guess. degens come out every day. trying to get to bayonne but that is probably all scuffed up by now. heard that seats in simulcast room are too close to the tv's. are there carrels with individual tv's or is it just mass seating. racing in serious decline as there are no replacements for those old degens you ran into. every grandstand in the country is empty. simulcasting ruined the track experience as everyone is watching and betting different tracks. gural sunk a lot of cash into that place but chances of new jersey racing surviving without slots is slim.

It's pennies on the dollar in winnings these days @ the track. 6 to 1 ponies shoot down to 5/2 odds right before gates open.
It's nice to get out of the house but not for recreational player.

Race Tracks will be a thing of the past. Its a dead game and handles decreasing yearly at most tracks. A few do ok because casinos built into them. Its a dirty and poor mans sport.

yes they have str, but it's closer to reality than ever. when the revenue from the slots decreases, and it will as they are oversaturating the tracks with slots, purses will drop because loss of subsidys to the purses. owners will get out of the game, breediing farms will produce less foals, that along with an aging clientele of bettors (no replacements in sight) as younger gamblers are infatuated with poker, casinos, and sports betting (quicker action). back in your day of the 60's and early 70's there weren't alternative options for gambing. now, with internet wagering horses players stay home and bet. why pay for admission, parking, bad food, etc. every big grandstand is empty today. how can they continue to keep them open with no customers. the horrific suffolk downs is about to close for good and many more will follow. you remember the huge crowds at bowie and pimlico. they are not coming back.

The breeding is WAY down , no doubt about it. While the revenue will have to eventually decrease as it gets spread all over, the same old song and dance will continue IMO.

Please don't get me wrong, less would be much better. Six horse fields and a 4-5 in every race is terrible. But no owners of individual tracks are willing to give up the cash cow of simulcasting. Every track owners hope is to cancel the live card but stay open for simulcasting. It's free money. Unfortunately, until these owners stop working solo, it will continue. It's so dumb. If they became a brand, like the NFL or other sports, they would dominate the market and work in conjunction with one another. But until that happens and I won't hold my breath, it will be more of the same, which at most tracks, stinks.
If for instance Md. worked with Del. Park and Parx and were on again, off again, weekly or by weekly, and cut the dates by 25%, they would have 12 horse fields for 6,500 claiming with a huge pot. THAT, would drive betting way up , which would allow to drop the take( flat betting is bad enough but exotics are outrageous, but that's the owners trying to hold on) and you would have 12% WPS take and 17% exotics. That creates bigger payouts and more money for the players to put back in. I realize that you already know this, but this is for guys that might not.
I agree that staying home will be the way it will work, another reason to share dates, but that requires states working together ( good luck) and it would absolutely work. Until there is a commissioner that runs the show, and holds owners accountable, each state will plod along at a lesser level. It's too bad. It really could be a helluva good thing .
Grandstands should be torn down or drastically reduced.

And the food, you mean you did not like it?
