Has anyone ever beat a line move with "inside information"?

Examples: You're listening to your local radio and they announce the hometown quarterback isn't going to be playing, and you miraculously find out before the linemakers. Or maybe finding out the entire starting lineup is out with the flu, etc..

Something to that effect where the line moves a considerable amount.

I can't remember ever doing it.

Chances are Vegas can smell a fart before it happens.

I would question anything the media (even local) is telling you is inside information. In my opinion only if you have direct contact with a team you might beat Vegas to the punch.

A few times every year with my cats.

It's always injury related though. I know of guys nursing injuries that aren't even announced.

Hell, did it this year when I found out about about 20ish hrs before game time the starting center had fallen on his hip and he was moving around poorly. I knew a few minutes after the starting lineup was announced to the players, in which Arizona's starting center was being held out of the starting lineup vs Cal Poly due to the same minor hip injury.

Nobody knew he wasn't starting until the official starting lineup card given to the media was produced minutes before tip. Few people knew he was even hurt.

    Cal Poly 1h cashed easily.

If you can take some of the homerness away, you should be able to easily beat the books with your local knowledge.

Going off the radio, this is what I do with the Suns as I am not a fan per se, is to listen to interviews with the players or coaches that are consistently scheduled. The radio guys end up building a rapport with the coach and players, which allows these guys to be a lot more candid. When they talk about how they are practicing, pay attention.

Hearing the words "We had a very good practice" or "we had a terrible practice" is a cue for you to look at that line. Obviously knowing the guys you are listening to and knowing they aren't bullshitting when they say that kinda stuff helps.

Made a few bets last season off that exact line of logic. Jared Dudley was a godsend in that regard.

Sometimes the line moves in your favor after the injury is announced which is mind boggling. Like last night in Toledo game. Line went from +5 to +6.5 after it was announced the Toledo RB was injured and wasn't playing. So it doesn't mean shit if you find out a player is injured before the books find out.

Pavy was recently voted in the top five in SBR's brightest poster list.

As a kid my parents owned a couple of race horses with a top trainer.

Not me, but twice I know of they made huge scores based on inside info. And every weekend they were talking with the trainer about info to bet with.

Left me thinking betting on horse racing is really just trying to guess who is trying and who is not.

That was almost 40 years ago though.

I did one time a couple of years ago - or at least that's the way I look at it. I was sitting in a bar about 11pm around the beginning of August 2011. ESPN was playing on the TV and I saw scroll across the bottom "Peyton Manning to have season ending neck surgery" so I thought to myself, "I need to check the season total wins on Indy when I get home." My phone had died at the time so I couldn't do it right then. When I got home I still had a small balance at one book (I usually only bet football and some hockey) so I checked the line around 1am and it was listed at 11.5. I wondered if I was falling into some sort of trap here or if I had really just "beat the line". I placed my whole balance (a little over $500) on the under 11.5 and as you all know that bet was wrapped up by the middle of October when they lost their 5th game.

Back in early 2000's, Raptors were favored by 5.5 over the Magic but the night before My grandma told me she ran into Lenny Wilkens walking aimlessly around the local drug store and he was demanding tangerines to be given to him. Everybody was confused and they eventually kindly escorted him out of the store. The incident was hidden from the media, but thanks to my grandma I was able to spread the news the next morning and the line shifted tremendously. The Raptors lost by 26.

    Off topic

Years ago a rather prominent NBA player had a family member in the emergency room. This player was in the ER until 4am. Looked terrible when leaving.

So I bet the other team +points and the under as he was the leading scorer on either team.

I split because the dog covered. But it had nothing to do with the player being up late or playing poorly. He only scored in the high 30's or maybe even low 40's that night

    Lesson learned

not sure if related but ive been on the coastal carolina fade train the past few weeks

not so much inside info but thats the chokingest school in the country so when they got to be top 5 ive been telling anyone who would listen to fade them....0-3 ats ever since including a +560 ML s/u w by charleston southern as a 17.5 pt dawg

more relevant to the thread, years ago i was at the travers and one of the early races was the jerry bailey invitational or some shit because he was basically the king of saratoga...he wasnt supposed to be one of the riders in the race but about 15 minutes to post the announcer comes on the pa and says he's racing....went straight to the window and hit it pretty hard (as far as a horse race goes anyway) and it was the easiest win ever

probably the only time i felt like i really knew what i was doing when i bet a horse race
