why do guys constantly post false numbers with their playsI mean if one bets a fav at -180 why do they post it as -140 for instance

it depends on what sport it is dawger..if its football/hoops that -110 -115 is always the number.. but on soccer, tennis etc the lines move a lot overnight and the next day.. example sara errani back a couple tourneys ago opened at -800.. and by gametime that number hit -1800.. foreign sports the odds jump 30 40 cents within a matter of minutes..

Dawg there are literally a hundred posters here who know sports like the back of their hands.
There may be five who can make money with that knowledge.
Sad thing is, it is so damn easy. A set of balls, and some discipline and that knowledge is really all it takes. If someone been watching games and looking at numbers for years and still can't make a buck it is their own damn fault.
This ain't a get rich scheme it is a job.

It helps with their units when it's a loser -140 looks a lot better than losing on a -200 favorite.
Which just means said poster is either A) not betting with real money or B) not betting with real money.

My favorite is when, for example, the line is -4. Six hours later the line is -6, and someone posts their game at -4, with the usual excuse: "I wasn't near the computer, too busy to post the play", etc.
