A stupid move would have been to take the braves and the under in Game 3

If I remember right both CC and Verlander were on 2 days rest back on Oct. 3 2011 (game 3).

    Det (-117) (total, 7) won 5-4. CC went 5.1, 7H, 3 SO, 6BB and and 4 earned. Verlander went 8.0, 6H, 4 earned, 3BB, 11 SO

    Three days rest, not 2.

That was a unique situation, because it rained in Game 1, forcing Verlander and CC to come out early. Verlander pitched 1 inning in Game 1. CC pitched 2 innings.

Here, Kershaw is pitching on the same rest as Verlander and CC did, but having thrown 124 pitches his last time out, and without having started on three days rest before (unlike CC and JV).

edit: It was 2 days rest

Oh you're right, it was two days rest.

But it was only done because they barely pitched in Game 1 due to rain.

Maybe I am showing my age, but I remember when all good pitchers went the whole season pitching every fourth day barring injury. And there was no such thing as a pitch count. You threw until they hit you.

Gibson, Koufax, Spahn, etc. These guys were throwing shutouts galore.

And if it is a stupid move you should tap out on the Braves tonight and see how you end up. Or better yet take +430 on Atlanta for the series. I don't hear anyone doing that yet.

I'm sure the impact will be worse on the next series as they are still going to win this series.

But hard for me to argue with a guy who's been around this group every day for the last 8 months or so.

I'll tell you after the World Series what I woulda done, like JJ

I am old enough to remember that too, but it is a whole new world today. Back in the day, pitchers pitched on shorter rest so often that there bodies effectively got used to it so it didn't bother them that much. Nowadays, short rest is the exception rather than the rule and also don't forget that pitchers are often creatures of habit that don't do as well when their normal routine between starts is broken.

That;s not the point either, even if the Dodgers WIN tonight, they are wasting Kershaw unnecessarily.

I think it's worth a flier, but some books took down the series price after the pitching change.

Was it ATL +430 before the change?

5 Dimes took it down but Heritage has
    Mon 10/7 853 Series Dodgers
    -545
    6:35PM (PST) 854 Series Braves
    +420

I would venture to say that Nolasco didn't think anyone had much faith in him after giving up 22 runs in 25 September innings including 17 runs in his last 12 IP.

So why even carry him on your postseason roster?

If you're not going to use him up 2-1 at home vs. Freddy Garcia, you're never going to use him.

I didn't say that he shouldn't be starting today. I was responding to Nino's assertion that Nolasco would feel somehow thwarted here. I don't think he'll read much into it other than his coach is coming off unnecessarily desperate.

I'd be starting Nolasco here for sure.

    postjunkie is a clueless nitwit.

the fact that they havent given him a contract extension even during that historic run is proof that his job is on the line.

mattingly said in a press conf that kershaw lobbied for game 4 start after game 1 and last night. and it was a decision by "committee."

sounds more like he's letting the inmates run the asylum. because if it backfires, he'll get 100% of the blame.

But the desperation shows your lack of confidence in Nolasco or anybody else in your starting rotation. Now you potentially hand Nolasco the ball in St. Louis and he isn't supposed to feel shitty? You don't think Nolasco wants a shot to show he's not as bad as he closed out the season? He's a professional, but it's the absolute wrong message to send him.
