If FOX gets LA Dodgers v. Boston Red Sox World Series

Red Sox v. Dodgers World Series has the potential to be one of the highest rated / most watched in history.

You have the East Coast v. West Coast angle.
You have the arch rivals LA against Boston sports angle.
You have tons of selling points, Puig, Kershaw, etc. etc.

I would like to see St. Louis v. Detroit myself, but I'll be riveted to the TV for Boston against LA

p.s. Boston has home field advantage, I would make the line a pick 'em.

    No names?

Even casual sports watchers can name a lot of players from both rosters.

"know names" on the Dodgers? Puig, Ramirez, Kershaw, Gonzo, Greinke, Ethier and sometimes Kemp are no names?

    NHL and NBA yes. Baseball?

Baseball is as exciting as ever.

Adding the 2nd wild card made things a lot more exciting.

I desperately want this to happen. Being 25 and living in Chicago, I don't/didn't get to hear Vin Scully nearly enough.

Only announcer to call a game solo, without a partner.
    All American male, Scully is.
He's the man we all want to be.
Lives the dream, collects a paycheck calling baseball games. How sweet is that?
Served with honor in the US Navy, just like my dad did.

Grew up in NYC, graduated from Fordham, where they spit out Hall of Fame broadcasters like crazy.
Mike Breen, Michael (can't stand him) Kay, Charles Osgood, the list is endless, not to mention dozens of all time great DJ's

Fordham's radio station WFUV is the highest rated college radio station in the country, which Scully (partially) founded.

I can write a freaking essay on his greatness.

    • So Harvey Kuenn is batting for Bob Hendley. The time on the scoreboard is 9:44. The date, September the ninth, nineteen-sixty-five, and Koufax working on veteran Harvey Kuenn. Sandy into his windup and the pitch, a fastball for a strike. He has struck out, by the way, five consecutive batters, and that's gone unnoticed. Sandy ready and the strike one pitch: very high, and he lost his hat. He really forced that one. That's only the second time tonight where I have had the feeling that Sandy threw instead of pitched, trying to get that little extra, and that time he tried so hard his hat fell off — he took an extremely long stride to the plate — and Torborg had to go up to get it.

One and one to Harvey Kuenn. Now he's ready: fastball, high, ball two. You can't blame a man for pushing just a little bit now. Sandy backs off, mops his forehead, runs his left index finger along his forehead, dries it off on his left pants leg. All the while Kuenn just waiting. Now Sandy looks in. Into his windup and the two-one pitch to Kuenn: swung on and missed, strike two. It is 9:46 p.m.

Two and two to Harvey Kuenn, one strike away. Sandy into his windup, here's the pitch:Swung on and missed, a perfect game.

(Thirty-eight seconds of cheering by the crowd.)On the scoreboard in right field it is 9:46 p.m. in the City of the Angels, Los Angeles, California. And a crowd of twenty-nine thousand one-hundred thirty nine just sitting in to see the only pitcher in baseball history to hurl four no-hit, no-run games. He has done it four straight years, and now he caps it: On his fourth no-hitter he made it a perfect game. And Sandy Koufax, whose name will always remind you of strikeouts, did it with a flurry. He struck out the last six consecutive batters. So when he wrote his name in capital letters in the record books, that "K" stands out even more than the O-U-F-A-X.

(Now read that again, read it a second time to realize how great Scully is/was)

"All year long they looked to him (Kirk Gibson) to light the fire and all year long he answered the demands. High fly ball into right field. She is gone! [pause] In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened."

I could have done without the Gibson double clutch fist pump as he rounded first, but that was one of the greatest calls of all time, that and Jack Bucks "get up, get up, get up" home run call (Big Mac's historic home run)

"Football is to baseball as blackjack is to bridge. One is the quick jolt. The other the deliberate, slow-paced game of skill, but never was a sport more ideally suited to television than baseball. It's all there in front of you. It's theatre, really. The star is the spotlight on the mound, the supporting cast fanned out around him, the mathematical precision of the game moving with the kind of inevitability of Greek tragedy. With the Greek chorus in the bleachers!"

“Let’s all take a deep breath as we go to the most dramatic ninth inning (1956 World Series : Don LarsenPerfect Game) in the history of baseball. I’m going to sit back, light up, and hope I don’t chew the cigarette to pieces."

"The Dodgers are such a .500 team that if there was a way to split a three-game series, they'd find it." (1990)

    "He's (Tom Glavine) like a tailor; a little off here, a little off there & you're done,take a seat."

"How good was Stan Musial? He was good enough to take your breath away."

"Good is not good when better is expected."

"Losing feels worse than winning feels good."
    (so true)

Agreed. If STL, ATL, PIT, CIN, makes the world series nobody outside of those cities would give a shit about the world series. IF LA makes it, you have interest from all over the US. Same with east coast teams thats not BOS or NYY.
LA vs DET or BOS would be best scenario for fox.

    JJ?

I can pick out any male office worker that could not give a crap about baseball and even know who "Big Papi" is
If I asked that same guy, "who is Kershaw?" he would probably answer something like "isn't he a really good pitcher?"

Come on JJ, you are better that this

You can also get an Oakland - Atlanta east/west coast series. Fox wouldn't care either way. They have sold the advertising years in advance.

See, that's where are wrong, yet again.

Allow me to educate you on media.
First, there is a thing called 'lead in'

The more attractive the game, the more people will watch.
The more sets tuned in to Fox, will tend to stay on Fox, if the game (s) are good.

So, whatever follows the game on Fox will get watched.
Leading to that shows higher ratings, if the show that follows the game gets higher ratings, then Fox can get more in advertising for that show.

Also, the more attractive series that gets watched, the more Fox's promotions will get seen.

The two best teams are LAD and Detroit. That would be the ideal matchup for baseball fans. I think SteveNash is right in that the best matchup for ratings is LAD vs. Boston. I think there is probably some Detroit fatigue among the casual baseball fan (i.e. the person whom the networks want to watch b/c they know the hardcore fans will watch regardless) having seen Detroit in 2 of the last 6 World Series. There may be some curiosity if Pitt made it since they would be a very good story but the truth is with football now on nobody really cares much for baseball anymore. It's almost like the baseball season is an afterthought and it doesn't help that all but 1 of the division races was basically wrapped up 2 months ago.

Does that still apply? I could see that back when you have to get off your ass to change the channel. With remote control people still stay on the same channel? I'm not saying I don't believe you but I find that fascinating.
