Because you don't need Ponder to win by atleast a TD. The Browns players know management just made a pitch at the #1 pick...same way Indy did by playing Curtis Painter.

    I agree 100%

Despite all the hype about Kaep, Russell Wilson, Cam and RG SHEET, Andrew Luck is quietly the best young QB prospect in the game. Yeah they had a weak schedule last year but he took a 2 win team to the playoffs.

They have film on him. What he does is easy to defend. Vikings will go 4-12 this year.

He played like shit last season, he wasn't a rookie either so teams had film on him already and they were still pretty decent

Vikings will be average, 4 wins too low

the only thing i can see is trent told the browns he doesnt plan to be there long term if they can't get an o line and a QB. they figure trade him now while the value is there. doing it after 2 games is totally weird because all that prep during the preseason and you make a big change like this just begs for it to fail.

i wonder if colts end up dreading this trade.

I have a hunch the Colts will end up wishing they could use that #1 on a lineman to project luck or a defensive player.

6 or 7 winnable games, how many of them do you think they will win with no QB?

4-12 is a lot more likely than 8-8.

Would I be correct in assuming that Cleveland will use their 1st round pick for a QB?

Part of the reason why crappy teams stay crappy is because they have to keep wasting 1st round, 2nd round or 3rd round picks on quarterbacks. Almost every single starting QB is a first rounder.

So while the crappy teams keep wasting high picks having QB tryouts...

Patriots, Giants, Steelers, Saints these teams don't have to do it. Yeah they recently took Mallet and the Nassib in the mid rounds but these guys are strictly drafted as backups to fill in for a few games in case of injury.

Just doesn't make any sense for them to draft anyone but a QB. Trent was the only card they had to play with and it's not likely they would get a 1st round RB better than him.

    #1 Cam Newton
    #8 Jake Locker
    #10 Blaine Gabbert
    #12 Ponder
#35 Andy Dalton aka fire crotch
    #36 Colin Kaepernick

Ponder is arguably the worst guy on that list. The Vikings are wasting Adrian Peterson because of Christian Ponder and the numb nuts Rooney Rule coach that reached to pick him.
So, what you're saying is they missed on Dalton and Kaepernick.

#1 on "their" draft board = The guy they just drafted in media speak.

    Trent was over-rated

kid didn't have the break away ability on this level.

no he didn't have the greatest line, but hell just about any 3rd string RB in the League could have had more big plays then him.

in his career he only has two runs longer than 20 yards.

    two!!!!

smart move by the Browns. They knew what they had with him and he wasn't what they need for the future.

    hmmmmmmmmmmmm

no more Donald Brown trying to pick up up the blitz with the game on the line? good.

move could end up good or bad.... but.... at least Indianapolis WANTS to win and makes moves to try and do just that.

On teddy vs geno. Jets fan here also long time college football watcher so I know my fair share about Geno Smith. Teddy lacks the star wr that geno had. Teddy throws less screens and quick hitters than geno did. Teddy goes down field more than geno and is far more accurate. Teddy impressed alot @ Kentucky so far this year, he had a great 2nd half against a stout D. Teddy is a top 5 pick Geno was a 2nd rounder. Geno would not be drafted much higher than he was if he was in the upcoming draft class. Can't really compare a top 5 talent vs a r2.

It seems like decent value on both sides of the trade....... but I would really hate to be a Browns fan already having to think about a few years down the road.

So, what you're saying is just because the QB sucks you can't base your entire decision off that? Seems you agree with the poster you quoted, and me as well.

anytime you draft a 28yr old rookie (that wasn't great in college) to be your starting qb you know your organization is dumb as shyt

the thing is... the Colts in the future won't have a top 10 anything pick for a while. but now, we got a RB who was taken 3rd overall and has only played basically 1 season and he was limited by injuries. he has ton of upside playing alongside a great QB and other playmakers on offense.

now that we got him, and the only reason we could do this trade is because he is in his rookie contract and it is affordable. now we can focus on improving the lines and linebackers in the next couple of off-seasons and picking our spots when needed for other areas of the team.

All this Clowney talk is insane. While he is, thus far, the supreme defensive prospect. Look through the history books through the #1 overall DE panning out. Mario Williams? Kinda iffy if you ask me. Bruce Smith OK you got one there but that's like 1985. Leeroy Selmon? IDK never saw him play but hear he was a bad ass. You don't draft a DE #1!!! Solid guys at that position are entirely more plentiful. Personally, I'll sign a dude like Freeney or Dumervil off the street, that I know can play, as opposed to crippling my franchise on a pass rushing prospect. #1 picks are for QBs and Offensive Tackles.

Fukkin A right GK!!! Dude moves the chains and doesn't litter the ball. They didn't draft Luck #1 because they want to run the thing. They just need a back that will keep them in 3rd and manageable. They don't need the home run threat. Luck is the home run threat!
