The goal of every lines maker is to set a line to where the probability of each side winning is 50 / 50 (contrary to popular belief that they want equal action)so the amount bet on either side is irrelevant because by years end they will profit from their 4% + house edge on both sides and with virtually no player edge. Think Banker / Player in Baccarat. Thus, NFL being such a large betting market, the betting information available and the Hugh number of sharp minds analyzing the data allows them to set the tightest lines in all of sports and again, the bet amount is therefore irrelevant long term,...(edit) well let me change that, it is relevant as they want maximum volume for maximum profit regardless of which side is bet like any Baccarat table would.

    Conversely, WNBA being a small betting market,less information and less sharp minds analyzing the market opens the door to the linesmen making mistakes. So you can have a side with a 10% player edge and a negative house edge making the betting size extremely relevent. So the books will have far lower max bets for protection. If WNBA's betting market becomes as large as the NFL's and the lines become razor sharp. Then WNBA max bets will be the same as the NFL's.
