Can the Nationals sneak their way into the playoffs?

They were dead and buried, but if the Reds lose tonight, they will suddenly be within 4.5 of the second wildcard. And only four in the loss column.

Just goes to show how ridiculously long the baseball season is.

September baseball is great though. We might actually have a race here in the NL.

Unbelievable, they were left for dead. Now they are absolutely still alive with the Reds not exactly tearing things up.

let's assume the Reds play .500 ball the rest of the way. That means the Nats would have to go 10-5 just to catch the Reds. Fortunately, their schedule seems favorable, as the Phillies (home) are exactly world-beaters, the Braves (home) have been on cruise control but will still be playing to hold off the Cards (or Pirates) for the top NL playoff spot, they don't have to face Fernandez when they play the Marlins (home), then their last six games are on the road against the Cards and the D'backs. So it's not out of the question.

By contrast, the Reds still have six games against the Pirates, although they should be favored the rest of their games (@Brewers, @Astros, vs. Mets). Still, if they struggle against the Pirates and don't play well on the road....you never know.

Better than 5%, only four games back with no other teams in between.
