With its incremental but noticeable improvements,
Madden NFL 25 is the best football game experience I've had to date. It shines on a technical level, but the real issue with the series is that other sports games have improved so much faster that Madden 25 looks and feels dated by comparison – fake Twitter streams and pre-game montages are already old news. It would be better if EA Sports did more that was new and interesting rather than bringing back features discarded in previous versions. But the real meat-and-potatoes gameplay is better than ever, and when it comes down to it, we’re here to play some damn football. Madden 25 brings it with bone-crunching intensity.

Madden NFL 25 is the best American football game I’ve played since Sega’s last NFL 2K effort. It’s polished. It presents itself well. And it’s a lot of fun. Each play … each flick of the stick shows how much effort EA put into this series. Those 25 years of hard work are in full effect here, and that’s great news for all of us who’ve been fans every turf-tearing step of the way.
Yet, with 25, EA Sports should have given itself a few additional pats on the butt. It has stayed in the game for this long, and it should have spent more time reminiscing about its achievements on the virtual field. In this case, I would welcome a little more showmanship and attitude.
More Deion Sanders. Less Tom Brady.
And — at least for this year — more John Madden.
