Vince Young Will Reportedly Work Out with Green Bay Packers

Vince Young will reportedly work out for the Green Bay Packers on Monday, according to Pete Dougherty and Wes Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

The two-time Pro Bowler played six seasons with the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles, but he hasn't played in the NFL since the 2011 season. He was in camp with the Buffalo Bills last year but was cut in late August.

The 30-year-old would compete with Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman to back upAaron Rodgers in Green Bay. Harrell has managed just four pass attempts since joining the Packers in 2010. Coleman was a seventh-round selection in the 2012 draft out of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and has yet to record a pass in the regular season.

Young, selected No. 3 overall in the 2006 draft by the Titans, made the Pro Bowl in his rookie year. In his 2006 campaign, he passed for 2,199 yards while tossing 12 touchdowns to 13 interceptions, but he did rush for 552 yards and seven touchdowns. Most impressively, he led the Titans to the playoffs as a rookie signal-caller.

In his final two seasons with the Titans, Young's passing game appeared to be coming around. In 21 games during that period, he tossed 20 touchdowns to 10 interceptions and averaged a career-high 8.1 yards per pass attempt in 2010.
Of course, Young's final season with the Titans didn't end well. In the Week 11 loss to the Washington Redskins, Young threw his shoulder pads into the stands and had an altercation with then-Titans head coach Jeff Fisher in the locker room. That led to Young's dismissal from the team in July 2011.

Six mediocre games later in Philadelphia, and Young was out of the league.

The Packers may be hoping that the leadership within their organization can set Young straight, so he can get back to playing the kind of football he was before his tenure with the Titans came to a crashing halt.

Another mobile quarterback who was drafted in the top 3 and was going to change the way the game was played! The NFL be changin yo. Vince Young, Michael Vick and Donovan Mcnabb can run and throw while Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning and Drew Brees can only throw.

You are right, Rodgers and Big Ben can run.

but the media doesn't jizz over his rushing abilities the way they do for the black quarterbacks.

and Ben Rothensteinlisburgerstein is Jewish and so is Aaron Rodgers.

Big Ben is a creepy thug
and Rodgers is anti-social and worried about getting called out for not being that tall.

In roughly the same time frame, the news shot out like a cannon at these places:
NFL.com here, ESPN.com here and here, Yahoo Sports here, and direct from the Green Bay local sports media here.

A dream job for a backup QB, get in there for one game and maybe win the lottery like Matt Flynn.

Good pickup. Kinda like the Tebow thing.

Throw the asshole on the practice squad, and practice against a mobile QB.

I could see that, or as a 3rd string

That's the ticket. He's really there to help the Packer D defend the spread option. If any quarterback besides Rodgers has to play, the season is over anyway.

Packers cut QB backup Graham Harrell; Vince Young now moves up earning roster spot as Aaron Rodgers' backup. Quite a turnaround for VY, as he's one-injury-to-Rodgers away from starting for Green Bay. Gives hope to a lot of other QB 3rd stringers the way injuries and/or poor play are going for other teams at the position.

VY didn't really earn his spot as much as Harrell finally got the boot after more chances than he deserved.

Vince Young is a steal as a backup. He is better than some of the starting qbs in the NFL.

If he is such a steal, why was he out of the NFL last season after washing out of the Bills camp?

he actually played well in preseason for buffalo. bills fans wanted him to start over ryan fitzpatrick. most guys on here dont have a clue whats going on because they are so entrapped in sunday lines they dont pay attention to the actual game.

even to this day bills fans think it was an idiot move to sign tavaris jackson and drop vince young when young could easily have been their starter.

young is 31-19 as a starter in the NFL, won rookie of the year, and has been to 2 pro bowls. that doesnt happen by accident. tennessee went to sh*t when young wasnt starting. the guy moves the ball and he is clutch. jeff fisher didnt want him drafted and made young pay for it constantly by not backing him and making the media think hes this and that.

good on young to not give up. best of luck to him, hes no doubt starting material

He's still a capable backup. As a Packers fan, I hope he never takes the field, but he's no Rex Grossman.
