What are the most surprising individual numbers or team stats in MLB this year?

The sickest stat is probably the Cardinals avg. with RISP. It was .337 a couple weeks ago, I'm sure that's a record number if they keep that up. IF anyone has their updated number on that, feel free to post.

    Here's another one:

METS are 6th in runs scored.
That number is just mind boggling to me.
They score it in chunks, because their offense can go a week of not scoring at times.
Their bullpen has blown more games than almost anyone I'd guess, but it's not like they have a threatening lineup. Bunch of butchers.

    Other random shockers:

    Liriano's numbers.

Carlos Gomez numbers (Roids though obviously).

The number of strikeouts for the Braves offense (They are going to blow away the previous MLB record for whiffs in a season by a lot)

The Redsox being in first place.

Plenty of crazy numbers in MLB this year.

What other shockers do we have boys?

How about the Pirates having the best team ERA in the game, at 3.09?

And right now, how about a shout out to Billy Beane. Again.

He's winning with a 60 million dollar payroll.

And the Pirates are winning with a 67 million dollar payroll.

And the Rays are winning with a 59 million dollar payroll.

Three playoff teams total payroll---180 million.

    Yankees total-- 230,000,000
    Phillies total---173,000,000

Chris Davis can't believe I didn't list that one.
I thought about it when I first started making the post.

    All good stuff.
Puig was an obvious shocker too. But even Hanley as well.
It's sad to see hanley doing so well to me because he tanked it in Miami obviously.
Signed big contract, Marlins lost a ton of games, started being lazy and not giving a fk after.
Traded to a contender, and has given 110% the whole year.

I called this one when they were 8 games back and 35-1 ro win it all and 17-1 to win the NL.
Not SBR posted, but I saw this coming from this team.
Unlike the Angles, this team bought enough talent to win and once they got healthy and Puig came up, it was a wrap.

Dodgers will win it all this year most likely. But honestly I hope they come up short because I didn't post up a bet on the 35-1.
Hate to see them do it and stick it in my ass for $3500.

Chris Johnson currently has a .427 babip. The last time a player posted a Babip over 427 was Jesse Burkett for the 1895 Cleveland Spiders! Johnson would be the four player since 1900 to post a babip over 420, the other three being Babe Ruth, George Sisler and Roger Hornsby.

Batting average on balls in play. Pretty much a measure of how lucky a player is. Most players should be between .280 and .320. Chris at .400+ is just ridiculous and means all his hits are luckily finding holes in the defense.

    Insane stat IMO:

Manny Machado leads MLB with 40 doubles through 112 games. BUT, he's only hit TWO doubles since July 2nd (29 game span)

So, at one point he had 38 doubles through his first 83 games.

    The bluejays starting pitchers
    Johnson morrow Dickey buerle
    And Romero
18 wins between them and the 29th worst era in the league as a team???
    For the huge payroll?
You would think to go with hentgan as pitching coach with the work he has done with the Bp.

How about the run differential for STL? +150? That's crazy. And their record is only 65/45 while the dodgers are only 4 games back of them and have a run differential of +17.

    Huh?

Isn't it a measure of hitting it where they ain't?

Also, if a player is hitting .300 on balls in play, wouldn't his average be much worse if you include at bats where the ball is not in play? (K's + foul outs - HR's - ground rule doubles - did I miss any?)

Full disclosure: I only saw Moneyball once.

not really, Batters have quite a bit of control over their Babips based on hit mix and certain skills and will generally range from 260-350. Babip has an extremely strong correlation with batting average.

Kind of, although that "skill" of "hitting it where they ain't, only goes so far. Babip basically excludes HR, BB, K, Sac Flies

Business as usual for Mariano. Not a surprise at all. Plus he's probably 46 or 47 years old I'm sure.

How about SF and their once remarkable pitching staff?

    Cain? 4.57 ERA?!

    Freak? 4.43 ERA?!

This team once lived off pitching alone, now they are in last place because their pitching sucks and they still can't score runs since noah built the ark!

    NYY?

El Cheeseburger C.C. Sabathia? 4.78 ERA? How the hell he got 9 wins with that current NYY lineup is beyond me!

Benny Mariano is arguably the best closer in baseball yet again even at the age of 40+

People say its not hard to close games but look at all these teams with bullpen problems at the end of their rotations .. The only thing that Mariano lost is mph on his fastball and cutter lol ..

you will probably never see another 40+ year old player dominate his position in any sport without using steroids .. Most players decline at what, about 35-36 maybe?

idk I just think its incredible how he is still untouchable

also how about this stat .. Prince fielder gained only 50 pounds from when he was 17 years old

also how about this stat .. Craig from stl batting almost 500 with runners in scoring position lol ..

Also how about this stat .. The Yankees only have about 4 home runs from a right handed batter in over a month

also how about this stat .. Miggy going for his second triple crown in a row ..
