TRUE! gonna be tough for the Phillies without Roy Halladay being "Roy Halladay" but Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels are still pretty dirty. And that offense is a veteran line-up with some pop throughout.

I saw last night that Josh Hamilton , Alber Pujols, and that dude with the big neck all went deep last night.

if they get them bats going and Jared Weaver comes back in Ace Form... maybe pick up some help for the bullpen, maybe add another starting pitcher and trade Fat Boy Blanton and his 0-7 record...

They gotta catch the Rangers though and the A's... I think they "can" do it. If they make the playoffs and the hitters are stroking the ball ain't nobody gonna wanna play them. Not even the Tigers or Yankees.

I was thinking about putting 500 on the Angels. It pays out 20,000 if they pull it off and then i can buy a new boat.

yeah but they are just soooo bad in October. They are the total opposite of the St. Louis Cardinals when it comes to October.

The Cards are so damn clutch and the Braves just choke year after year.

They need to get Jared Weaver back ASAP. If they get Weaver back they a solid top 3 in

Weaver, Wilson, Vargas. Williams is okay but Richards and Blanton are garbage. That bullpen is horrendous too. But "if" they got the bats i'm tellin ya. Imagine if they get the bats going. I can't think of a tougher line-up to pitch to if Trumbo , Pujols, Hamilton , and if that roided up dude with that thick neck start hitting. ( can't think of that dudes name)

This, if Beachy comes back after the ASB, and can get them 8 wins+. very real chance.

Philly is dead in the water, Howard is a shell of himself, Utley still has some gas in the tank, the pitchers though don't strike fear in anybody anymore.

I wouldn't sleep on the Angels. If the Yankees can make up 14 games in August, the Angels can sure make up 10.5 in May.
Plus that division is flawed, Seattle has weak bats, Texas has weaknesses....

Oakland is the team to beat, every at bat is smart. They are almost dead last in batting average, but almost at the top as a team in on base percentage, which means they work the other pitcher and gets on via walk.

But know this, LAA's line up can put up a 5 spot in any particular inning at any time.

Angels almost back to .500 baseball and have won 10 of the last 12.

Hopefully they pick up Garza who has already shown he can beat the A's.

Angels only 6 games back of the wild card and finally have Josh Hamilton swinging the bat well.

    I got $150 on 40-1 odds

    pays out 6,000

You threw away 150 bucks on the Angels winning everything? AL West/AL/World Series?

They may sneak in and get a wild card----anything can happen--- but they have the 5th worst ERA in the AL, and pitching wins playoff baseball. This Angels team won't stand a chance when they go up against a team with 3 quality starters.

A much worse sign for you. The Angels have the third worst batting average against numbers for their pitching staff. Teams are hitting .260 against them.

By comparison.....the last 5 World Series champs had an ERA more than .5 run better than the Angels.

Good value, but like someone else said pitching is what will do it. Even the surprise teams the past decade or so have done it because of good pitchers or at least guys that have the ability.
I'd say Weaver and CJ Wilson are playoff quality pitchers (not great or even really good ones at that), but the rest of the staff is garbage that I have seen nothing out of to indicate they could win multiple playoff starts.
The only hope for this is acquiring a starter that will post sub 3ERA stuff and can anchor the rotation.
Even if that happens the bullpen is still unreliable.

Obviously the books weren't handing out 40-1 on the Cards or Red Sox so you know the risk.

BOL to ya, things will get very interesting if they even make the playoffs.

(edit: i misplaced greinke for weaver)

Losing Pena big blow. Braves need to move BJ Upton and Uggla if they want to be real contenders. Never seen worse big league hitters. Hard time even making contact.

The rotation is decent, but if you look around to the likely playoff teams atm, that would be the worst out of the 8 or 9 contending teams besides the Pirates. I wouldnt say I'm sold on Wilson or Vargas (also teams typically wont use 5 starters in the playoffs so there is no need for Hanson).
I don't think it is entirely impossible, like, say, a "contending" team like the Royals, but a struggling team with a below average pitching staff and bad bullpen rarely makes it to the playoffs and hardly ever out of the first round.

    Who's staff would you prefer?

    Detroit or LA?

Detroit will probably roll out a playoff lineup of Verlander/Scherzer/Sanchez. Hell, Sanchez is sporting a 2.80 ERA. That's going to be a tough lineup to beat in a Best-5 series.

Sorry, just don't see LAA winning that.
