    "Poker is Dead" book

Anyone with a kindle read this?

    http://www.amazon.com/Poker-Is-Dead-.../dp/B008GO38QK

Poker has become a losing proposition. If you are still playing, you must quit. For many reasons. Contemporary poker stinks big time. The games have become virtually unbeatable as participants have become more and more proficient. The rake eats away at the money moving back and forth between equally skilled players, making greedy poker sites rich and likely leaving you profitless.
As your EV goes down, poker damages your emotional and physical wellbeing. Most players turn into unhealthy, unhappy and broke neurotics. Even worse, the future of poker is completely uncertain. You are wasting your time and energy. You are wasting your life.
The book explores why you must quit… and what to do with your life after.
There is so much more to life than poker!

    Online poker? Absolutely.

Live poker tho is still an easy come up if you're patient.

Friday and saturday nights from midnight to 4am here at the casino are hugely +ev

any time other than that, i agree, the rake/tips offset pretty much any advantage someone has

just like gambling on sports, only way to guarantee winnings over a lifetime is to have the juice in your favor through booking or bonuses

was easy back in the day with poker propping, 150% rakeback, etc

Poker is dead and has been dead for about 3 years now. You can't listen to a bunch of jerkoff sports degens on this topic.
There are probably less than a handful of people on Sbr who actually played poker professionally.
I barely play anymore other than for recreation. Ever since online poker crashed, money is non-existent. Playing live is a huge grind and for the amount of hours you have to put in isn't even close to worth it. The statement is perfect, as the action is brutal, and players just bump heads all day long praying for ONE bad player to sit and then the rest can hope to get lucky enough to get his stack.

Online poker was where all the real money was at.

It will be back online within the next few months, and poker will see some sort of a small increase in attention, but it will never be like it used to be in the "Good ole days".
I won't get very excited knowing I have to pay taxes on my winnings online now and can't play against the world class trash of europeans who love giving money away, as new laws state we can only play against ppl in this country.

Stay in school kids, there is no promise in poker anymore.

The live players are so bad it is ridiculous. I tell my friends live poker at the casino is as close to risk free gambling as it gets. For example last week I have QJ of spades in BB and just check with about 8 limpers in hand just hoping to hit something big. Flop comes KT9 with K and T both spades. I lead out and bet half of pot. I have about 180 in my stack. One guy min raises me another guy calls. I reraise and it gets back to the min raiser and he says I'll just put you all in. The dealer counts up my remaining chips and he puts in the 160 or so. The guy on the button insta calls. I'm like WTF do these guys have???? The first guy had K6 offsuit the other guy had 95 spades and both guys almost drawing dead.

I'm sure the book has valid arguments. There was no card runners or blue fire back then. There was very little in the way of books, forums, and videos. The book that was considered to be the best was Super System and quite frankly that's not that great for anything other than a beginner. It's just a tougher, more educated player pool.

That said, there's still money in poker. But is it worth it? The key phrase there is: "As your EV goes down, poker damages your emotional and physical wellbeing. Most players turn into unhealthy, unhappy and broke neurotics." The mental and physical aspect of playing the game is so overlooked and under rated. You're basically sitting on your ass for hours so it's not exactly healthy. You can be a great X's and O's player but if you fall apart during your inevitable downswings or long periods of breaking even, it negates your technical advantage. Some people try to pound their bad variance with volume when they aren't playing well and it only compounds the problem. Even good players can go massive tilt without even realizing it and let things spiral out of control. If you can't handle it mentally, the money that is out there isn't worth becoming stressed, depressed, and unhealthy over.
