    McDuggly's MLB Thread

Hey guys, now that the MLB is starting up, I thought I'd keep a thread with the picks I'm making via 5dimes. Any input/advice is much appreciated. I have my first 3 plays ready for tomorrow.

    April 1:

    Los Angeles Angels @+102 (2x)
    Pittsburgh Pirates @-120
    Detroit Tigers -1.5 @-115

Bases loaded with 1 out and Angles can't bring in a run.

    Adding to today:

    Oakland/Mariners no score in 1st inning @-155 (2x)

We all obviosuly know what King Felix has, but Brett Anderson is one of the best pitchers in the division and one of the most overlooked in baseball. Neither team is packing any serious punch offensively, so I don't even see 2 hits combined in the first inning of this one.

    Added play for 4/1:

    Oakland/Mariners no score in 1st inning @-155 (2x)

Anderson struck out the side and Hernandez followed with a no-hit first. Like expected, no hits were recorded in the first inning.

    Updated Record:

    3-1 (+3.2 Units)

    April 2:

    Cleveland Indians +1.5 @-135
    Rangers/Astros Under 8 @-105
    Cardinals/Diamondbacks Under 9 @+105

I think the Indians are going to be undervalued to start the season. I'm from Cleveland and have watched these guys play for years and know that these new additions of Swisher, Bourn, and Stubbs make this a very competitive team. Masterson is underrated as well and hasn't gotten run support in recent years. Brett Lawrie is out for the Blue Jays which also helps.

As far as the Rangers game, Lucas Harrell isn't a bad pitcher and the Rangers' offense seems empty without Hamilton in there. If Yu Darvish pitches the way he can, the Astros won't score any runs because they are horrible this year offensively.

I'm using the same logic with the Cardinals game as I did with earlier picks by saying that they seem sluggish on offense without some guys like Freese (who is on the DL right now) and Berkman in there and I think will have trouble scoring. With that said, I can't see the Diamondbacks scoring 6 runs in this game against Jaime Garcia.

I really want to fade the Jays immediately, but Masterson is underrated?

Agree he doesn't get run support, but other than in '11, he's been garbage. In his other five seasons combined, he's 27-43 with a 4.5 ERA.

well i guess you are correct. i just think he is one of those guys that usually pitches well enough to give his team a shot to win the games.

He pitches to contact, which probably won't bode well at Toronto tomorrow night.

I personally think Toronto is the most overrated/overhyped team in baseball and Cleveland is going to turn some head this year, but I don't see the angle in backing the Tribe on Tuesday.

Cleveland can win that shit division. Not knocking your Tigers I just think that division is crap.

I don't necessarily disagree. Tigers have obvious flaws in their bullpen, and they still have no team speed and a sub-par defense. They'll go 88-74 again or whatever. I don't think CLE or KC gets to that point, but they'll make a push.

KC didn't fully commit. Their offseason trade was weird. I don't really get what they were trying to do but Shields is solid. I like their young players and it's about time they became relevant but who knows what will happen.

Hosmer, Gordon and Moustakas need to start playing like MLB veterans. Today wasn't exactly a ringing endorsement; looked like more of the same to me. Their bullpen is rock solid.

No Coin, I do think Masterson is undervalued and is a great pitcher from what I've seen from him despite what his record has been. I can see the Indians winning this game, but don't have the balls to make the play.
