    Gambling - Legal or Illegal?

I've got a question for anyone familiar with the gambling laws in the US. Is betting 'points' against one another or on games to win prizes (such as those in the SBR store) considered a legal activity?

In addition - if SBR were to charge, let's say $5 for 100 points, and then allowed the same type of betting practices, where would this fall in terms of legal/illegal activity?

(Trying to right a research paper on the gambling industry and thought that a section about a sports book, such as SBR, would be a nice way to get me a few extra pages)

    Thank you!

i think sbr faq can help you... "betpoints may be purchased by SBRforum members who are based outside of the United States. US residents are strictly prohibited from purchasing betpoints."

you should read up on how the law splits gambling vs fantasy sports i think the law has a separate section just to allow fantasy sports.

The act of placing a bet on a sporting event is not illegal in most states, but there are a few exceptions (Washington State for one). The act of serving as a bookmaker is illegal in all states (outside of Nevada of course).
