    49ers release PK David Akers

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/90...rancisco-49ers

He missed too many field goal tries last season although he wasn't 100% healthy......Hope the Niners can find or draft a suitable replacement for Akers.

Well he did make that 63 yarder at Green Bay.

I was really surprised that Harbaugh held on to him for the entire season. The free agency market for kickers must have been really bare.

Most place kickers and closers in MLB becomes mental cases at one time or another. Look at Norwood, look at Mitch Williams in MLB

Few exceptions: Jason Elam never got rattled, neither does Mariano Rivera in baseball.

Morten Anderson was the greatest place kicker of all time.
Dude kicked for 24 years, missed 10 extra points in his entire career (incredible) and hit 80 percent of all his FG tries.
