Grossly overpaid. NFL has a history of QB's who only win 1 Super Bowl.

You could look at it in another way Innovation.... using recent history

out of the last 20 super bowls before this year. I'd say two were not considered elite by many

Trent Dilfer (Ravens) and Brad Johnson

does that put Flacco's chances of finishing his career as "elite" at 90%?

There will be another lockout. Flacco's contract will be what all the current young guns will base their next contract.

Personally I don't put Big Ben, Eli, Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Kurt Warner, Troy Aikmen, and possibly Steve Young as Elite.
I grew up a BYU and Cowboy fan too.
Im sure I'll catch heat for a couple of these but Elite to me is the top 5% or better.

How is Big Ben not elite? Look at the guys numbers. 4th highest win %, two SBs (will probably get another one before it's all over) 11th in completion %

Is 11th in completion% the best you could come up with?

I think he's the only QB to ever win two superbowls and not get an MVP. The refs won his first one, James Harrison and Santonio Holmes got him his second. Dude is in that "good-but-not-elite" category to me for sure.

Ben was an awful 9 for 21 in the SB that the refs robbed the Seahawks in 2005
9 for 21 for 123, 2 picks and 0 TD's is hardly elite. 22.6 rating is the worst for any winning team's QB

Ben was hardly elite in the GB Super Bowl game too.

Ben is not elite, neither is Flaco.

A QB is as good as his recievers. He is playing at a high level because of his recievers.

being that there are about 100 QB's every year on NFL rosters, Elite would be about the top 5 every year according to your 5% rule. I would say that actually broadens the scope of elite.

Also I think you'd be hard pressed to make any argument that any Hall of Fame QB like Young, Aikman, (and possibly future HOF-er and two time MVP Waner) are not in the top 5% of QBs. How many QB's have ever suited up in the NFL? how many Qb's are in the HOF?

He had a lot of stars around him. Being a cowboy fan I am biased because I compare him to Roger Staubach and Danny White. I just wonder what Aikmans record and numbers would look like if he was on previous era cowboys teams. You may be right but Personally I have doubts.

Warner I am biased because he stayed in too long. Young and Aikman I am comparing to predecessors. They possibly are and we all are entitled a opinion.

Logic would say 5% would be starting Quality QB's. Why even look at backups.

Warner stayed in too long? I'd say he was given a late start.

last two years were his best other than his 99,00,01 triumvirate.

went to a super bowl and pro bowl in 08 and retired after a very good 2009 season. I'd say some people's opinion would be that he retired near the top.

I very much look forward to the Kurt Warner, Biopic starring Denzel Washington

I understand that he took the risk of playing out his contract, and THAT is badass and he deserves to get paid. He could have had an awful year and been absolutely screwed.

That being said. For Joe Flacco to be the highest paid QB its a joke. An absolute joke. Look for Joe to have an awful year.

Honestly, I would take Romo, Dalton, and maybe even Jay Cutler over Flacco. That's how mediocre I think he is.

I told that to Giants fans and they thought I was just bitter from loss. Giants missed playoffs after Super Bowl win.

Ravens are a similar team, not great, not getting better, getting older, schedule will be tough, Pitt will be healthier.
Most of their wins were by 3 points or less, variance will catch up to them.

Do people think they are going to win 11-12 games?
8-8, 9-7 and good chance they miss playoffs.

Flacco's deal is going to screw up the amount teams have to commit to QBs, that's for sure. If he's the highest paid QB in the NFL, can't wait to see what Rodgers deal is going to be. Not gonna kill the guy - he's been amazing in the playoffs. Elite? Hardly. He just hit free agency at the right time and under PERFECT circumstances. I was shocked he didn't take the deal Baltimore was looking to do last year - but he lucked out and deserves it.

Also, the 'elite' category is reserved for prolific winners. QBs that make the impossible possible. Flacco rarely put the team on his back until this playoff run - if at all. He's made some big throws, but boy has he had a lot of turkeys.
