    Get the champagne ready Jersey!

    Fellow New Jerseyans check-in!

Online Poker To Be Legal In New Jersey By Mid-April

Lawmakers To Vote Feb. 26 And Then Governor Has 45 Days

After New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie made a hugely favorable decision last week on an online gaming bill that was resting in his hands, state lawmakers will have to approve some minor changes before sending it back to him for signature.
It’s extremely likely Christie would sign this time around, after straight-up vetoing a similar measure in 2011 and then electing on a conditional veto in 2013.
State Sen. Ray Lesniak, sponsor of the bill, told Card Player last week that lawmakers will vote on the changes within a few weeks. According to the Press of Atlantic City, that date has been set as Feb. 26, and then Christie will have 45 days to sign.
It’s unclear how long he would take this time around, after he elected to run out the clock after the legislation was presented to him at the tail end of 2012.
This means that New Jersey, with more than 8.8 million people, will have legal online poker by mid-April. However, it doesn’t mean the games will be up and running by then. A brutally slow licensing phase would still need to happen. Nevada, which authorized online poker in the summer of 2011, still hasn’t had any of its firm launch a real-money site yet.
The games could only be intrastate at first, unless the Garden State quickly figures out the logistics on player pool-sharing arrangements with other jurisdictions. Either way, online poker games run from Atlantic City will eventually expand past state lines.

Great post and i was excited and was looking at each step of this process, then i quickly learned how long this was going to take after it passes and i instantly lost any and all my excitement. Who the fuk wants to wait 2 more years until they get things figured out to play online poker again and thats only in NJ. That champagne is going to have to wait a while. But its a step in the right direction i guess.

Yes but the process of even being able to play poker will take sometime even if it passes today. Pokerstars is going out of there way to purchase a casino in AC and there not doing it just for a casino, in order to be licensed the rule is u need to have casino ties. After i found out about the trial period and ins and outs before this thing actually takes off made me more mad than even before all this started. They r saying something like 2 years or so before we can play, which is total bs.

This. At least it's progress. They wait too long and there's going to be another election cycle and there will be a whole new collection of jerkoffs that the legislation has to go through.

I'm in NJ, but can play poker now on my Bookmaker & DSI accounts. So the only benefit to this bill is it being legal? I'm not worried about playing poker on Bookmaker & DSI, why would I want to give NJ a % cut?

Progress? I see no progress at the moment, just time wasted for anyone who wants to play in decent tournaments or games. U wont even get the full amount of people to play against, just jersey residents, garbage if u ask me. Then u have to wait until they decide its ok for interstate(only god knows how long will that take) and if they even consider trying to get it to go over seas. Then they want 15% tax. Seriously guys what do they think we stupid, its NJ not freeking Florida where we have no choice. If i really want to play some good games i would rather just drive 6 hours to Toronto and stay with my family there to play, better than get shitted on by this crap.
Honestly i got no time to even think or wait on this, when the time comes then i will start to think more about it. For now all i have is what is left for U.S. players, unless i want to go 6 hours away.
So stupid everyone else except U.S. players can play on all the good sites. Nice job for NJ, but your talking to even get this started by 2014 atleast half way threw the year, don't get your hopes up just yet.
