emily, i played Goalie for 3 yrs. let me tell you something. i would sweat out 8 lbs of water after the game, while the players would sweat out like 5 lbs. you have no idea how intense it is to be between the pipes. first, you have on roughly 30 lbs of equipment. also, when there is pressure in your zone and around your crease for more than 40 seconds, you can't breathe. it's so stressful and rigorous, and you have to focus and cover your angles, etc.. trust me, if you play in nets for 1 game, you will collapse from exhaustion. toughest position in sports and no other position burns more calories in sports, including catcher. it's non stop and 1 mistake by you and you can cost yourself the game. you have to be very flexible and in tremendous shape to be a goalie, and have balls to face a puck coming at you at 120 mph.
