Why do books even offer spreads that end in a full point?

Pushes are pointless for them since they don't gain any juice $ off pushes

Why not just offer spreads with a .5?

Cuz why lose by the hook for them also when they can push as well? Works the same way

Because some people will buy the extra .5

Ya, but juice should make them win in the long run

Depending on who's playing... let's say the spread is 4. +4.5 may get too many wagers.... and -3.5 may get too much action. So... -4 might be perfect?!?!? .5 does make a huge impact on a few games.

On NFL I could see it being big, but in the NBA I doubt it would make all that much of a difference. My guess is BI still made money on basketball (if they gave half points on it, I'm not sure), but got raped on football.

i kinda understand what hes saying but if you have a football game with a team -2.5 you run the risk of being massively exposed if the team wins by 3 (everyone would buy the hook to +3 or bet the favorite at -2.5). even for basketball, you need it for key numbers like 6 to even the action out. books dont like to gamble on these games unless they have 2.

I actually started a thread asking the same question like two years ago. I didn't get any answers that I thought made sense.

I've always believed a spread should be able to dictate whether a wager wins or loses and not merely get a push, so for that reason I've never understood -1 lines in basketball.
