List of NHL free agents and unrestricted free agants

There's going to a lot going on real quick.

    http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opin...hl-season.html

    Posted: Sunday, January 6, 2013 | 08:57 AM

The NHL season has been salvaged. Now what?

The busiest people, before this deal can be ratified by the players and approved by the owners over the next few days, will be the lawyers for the NHLPA and NHL in drawing up the language of the new collective agreement.

The schedule maker also won't get much sleep.

When NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr jointly announced "the framework of a new collective bargaining agreement" just after 6 a.m. ET on Sunday morning, the big question swiftly became when will the players be back on the ice?

The exact answer and details still have to be worked out. But it appears there are two possible opening nights for the NHL season at this point. The earliest would be a 50-game schedule beginning on Jan. 15. The latest would be a 48-game docket up-and-running on Jan. 19.

That means the earliest training camps could start would be on Wednesday. The latest would be on Saturday.

The 30 NHL general managers will be overwhelmed signing free agents to round out their rosters in the next week. Player agents will be engaged in a hectic stretch trying to find homes for their unrestricted free agents.

Raycroft is still a reliable back up netminder.

Andrew Brunette is a veteran with a ring that can still make plays.

Championship teams don't need reliable back ups.

So team depth, playoff seeding, home ice advantage and less travel don't matter. What great insight.

Try to stay within the context of the conversation. He was talking about the half dozen games a backup would dress for being an important part of a team's make up. If you think the backup goalie adds to a team's depth you need to stop playing videogames and get a clue.

Also, never fukking heard of you, pal.

    God bless.

Yeah spin it however you want Mr. tough guy on the computer.

Never heard of me? That is because I have a life and haven't the time, or inclination, to post 6,483 times as you have. I mean really, 6,483 posts is down right embarrassing. It's time for you to move out of your parents basement and get a job.

PK Subban is also a big name from that list. Getting him under contract seems to be GM Marc Bergevin's #1 priority though.

I see you've decided to abandon your stance in the conversation, one that had nothing to do with you. Good call there, pal.

Sadly, you took the opportunity to personally attack me and my post count. With retorts like "move out of your parents basement" I can see why you don't post too much. On behalf of the SBR community I'd like to thank you for keeping your unoriginal and downright pathetic posts down to 74.

    God bless.

Don't forget each team is allowed to buy out one contract if they wish....That could also add a bunch of players into the free agent pool.....

What is pathetic is your lack of analytical ability and your stupid name calling attack on the poster who dared suggest that you are wrong when you mocked the importance of a backup goalies. When in fact they will play an even more significant role in the compressed season. Every point is going to be precious and the performance of backup goalies will have a huge impact on their team's point standing and playoff seeding and thus home ice advantage or disadvantage. So no, I haven't abandoned my "stance" at all. It is just so obviously correct there should be no need to draw a picture for you.

    From nhl.com
The last goaltender to make at least 70 starts in the regular season and win the Stanley Cup was Martin Brodeur, who made 73 starts for the New Jersey Devils in 2003. One look at recent Cup winners shows less in the regular season means more in the postseason:

    * Tim Thomas made 55 starts for the Bruins last season
    * Antti Niemi made 35 starts for the Blackhawks in 2009-10
    * Marc-Andre Fleury made 61 starts for the Penguins in 2008-09, the most of any goalie to win the Cup since Brodeur in 2003
    * Chris Osgood and Dominik Hasek both made 40 starts for the Red Wings in 2007-08

The backup goaltender has meant more than ever since the 2005-06 season.

Just admit that you shoved your head up your arse with your juvenile attacks ("hamburger"; gosh what a wit!) and move on. You are really making a fool of yourself.

Go ahead and have the last word because I am through with you. I will waste no more time on an attention seeking troll.
