can someone explain the Giants playoff picture to me? how are they out of division?

at the end of the Washington game announcer said "and Washington will be playing for the division title in Dallas"

but Joe Buck just said if Giants win today they aren't totally eliminated...just as I was posting this so I was fully paying attention the situations, think he said if Dallas wins and Giants win out, Giants win the division? Giants have split with the Skins on the year 1-1 correct?

They need to win next two and the cowboys beat the skins next week.

They're not out of the division, but Wash wins the division with a win next week. Giants can still get a wild card. But if they lose today they are pretty much done in the WC chase as well -- they would need a lot of help.

If Giants win the next 2 and Washington loses next week, then Giants win the division

He never said anything about the division but they Giants DO control their own destiny. If they win the next 2 they are in as a Wild card no matter what but the way they are playing it may not matter.

That's false. If Giants lose today they can win next week and still make it with a Minnesota loss. Which makes no sense to me.

Head to head doesn't matter when it comes to division. I believe it's the division record which matters first.

    Washington 4-1 in the division.
    Giants 2-3 in the division.

Head to head is ALWAYS the first tiebreaker. Then division record, then conference record.

i think the giants are actually 1-3 in the division.

they look horrible again today. Coughlins 2nd half of season collapses continue. this team is so bipolar. 2 super bowls wins against the Pats, the rest they come out steaming hot and collapse worse than the Mets did with a 7 game lead with 17 to go

They're 2-3 in the division. It wouldn't make sense then. They need 6 division games and they only have 1 game left against the Eagles.

This team is such a fukkin joke at times and impossible to figure out. 6/7 weeks ago it looked like they were gonna run away with the div. Now they probably wont even make playoffs!

How does Dallas still control their own destiny now that the Giants lost.

I realize they play the Skins next week but if they win that game, Dallas and Washington will be 1-1 against each other, have the same record, and have the same division record. Washington owns the better conference record.

What is the next tie-breaker? Is it common opponents or something?

if redskins beat dallas, dallas cannot make wild card.

giants only hope is if minnesota and bears and dallas all lose, and giants win, right?

As far as I can see this goes:

Redskins vs Cowboys can in no way affect Giants destiny. Only thing that matters is that Vikings and Bear both loses?

redskins can still take up a wild card spot even if they lose to cowboys, but cowboys get kicked out if they do not beat redskins and thereby cowboys win the division because of tiebreaker rule i think. i don't think cowboys can take up a wild card slot, they either beat redskins and win division or get kicked out. so giants need the redskins to not take that wildcard spot i think.

it would take a miracle for giants to get in
