Is the Bears Collapse the biggest ever in the NFL?

7-1 and might miss the playoffs. Somehow they out do their 7-3 collapse from last year.

Has a team ever started 7-1 and missed the playoffs? Do they even control their destiny anymore?
They should win their last 2 games but......

Going by the playoff machine. They need one loss from Dallas or Giants or two losses by Seattle plus win out.

I remember the eagles once started out 6-0 or 7-0 and then finished the season 7-9 (sometime in the early/mid 90s). Ill never forget it

Big collapses happen every year in the NFL.

    2011: Bills start out 5-2, finish 6-10.
    2010: Titans start out 5-2, finish 6-10.
    2009: Broncos start out 6-0, finish 8-8.
    2008: Bucs start out 9-3, finish 9-7.
    2007: Lions start out 6-2, finish 7-9.

But in terms of sheer wins and losses, the 1987 Chargers take the cake:
    1987: Chargers start out 8-1, finish 8-7.

You must be thinking about 1994, they started 7-2 and finished 7-9.

If that's the strike shortend season then that was two sets of different players and one bad coaching staff.

If The Bears don't get over 8 wins... if the bears can't beat the Cardinals next week, there is no god.

This would be awesome. Never, ever was a fan of Lovie.

Always wanted Rivera, but would happily take Reid or Wisenhunt.

Minnesota also factors in. First, Bears obviously need to win both. I'll just assume Seattle wins one and gets in over them. Second, they will need Minny to lose to either Hou or GB (likely). Third, they need either Giants OR Wash to lose just 1 game. Bears beat Dallas so they have that tiebreaker, BUT if Dallas and NYG both win out, then Dallas wins division and Bears lose conf record tiebreaker to NYG.

Most likely he Bears will still squeak in. They do tend to beat the bad teams, and Arizona and Detroit qualify. All of their losses are to teams now 8-6 or better. Minnesota is not going to beat both Hou/GB. And then the NFC East will have to fall just right with two of those teams winning out (and Wash/Dall face each other).

So it's actually not unlikely that the Bears still get in. I doubt Minnesota makes it with their schedule.

Squeak in and get run over in round 1. They win when they get defensive scores. They don't have more talent or out-scheme other playoff teams.

How's it choking when everyone thought they would lose to the Saints?
Worry about the giants making the playoffs.

Bring in Gruden and get an NFL LT so Jay has a chance to succeed.

The Bears should have kept Olsen...Bears very similar to Lions in that they have a rocket armed qb with only one guy to throw to at the moment. Arizona with Petersen ate that up, so don't know if the Bears will definitely win. Bears O line is worse too and Cards definitely got to Staphord.

Don't you guys remember when the Broncos were 8-6 under Jay Cutler and had to win only one game to win the AFC WEST?!

Then went on to lose 2 games straight, and then lost to the Chargers 52-21 to allow the Chargers to win the AFC WEST.

Both teams finished 8-8 with the Chargers having the tie-breaker, Broncos started 4-1 that season.

This is what I wanted to do after reading your post, no offense

Two game collapse? In the discussion of biggest ever? And sounded like you were talking about a 17 game season there.

I am going to give you two points in case that was rude, but you gave me a headache.
